New DirecTV HD DVR Box recording random shows - cant get it to stop

Isn't that something that should have been done when the initial set up was done for the building regardless?

not necessarily. It could be an older setup
My building switched from Comcast to Directv June 2012 according to the manager. They just started adding band stop filters here around Sept/October 2013 and its only on specific ones (I assume anyone with a HD DVR). Since if you switch equipment you have to go through Access Media 3 (so they say) and they come out to do the install (they dont send you the box...they HAVE to do it...for $50 of course) and I guess if you upgrade to HD they'll put a filter on the line then

Is there a certain 'model' band stop filter I need to get or are they all the same? I may wait until Monday to call them again and see if they wont take care of this first then I'll go from there.

So it just plugs into the cable that goes into the receiver? Maybe the settings you suggested to block access will take care of the problem by itself *crossing fingers*

looks like here in our complex not everyone has one (I can see the cable junction box...its tied shut with a piece of cable and they never tie it back when they're working in it). I assume only the folks with HD or a DVR do (most folks just take the free SD receivers no matter what TV they have)
That's a really bad policy. These days it should be automatically included in an MDU install.

yeah it just has to be in the line. You could plug it right in the back of the receiver

I dont know but it looks like changing everything to "block" should fix it

I agree but there are folks who have only the stock D12 and have had it since they got installed at the beginning when they put it all together

My bill is from DirecTV but True Digital Satellite are the ones that have to come out and fix stuff.
so its like our setup here. Get a bill from Directv but have to call Access Media 3 for repairs

So then I *can* fix this myself without them having to come out. Just install it on the cable that goes into the receiver?
yes

No, but if they added it, the problem would be back again. The MDU manager needs to add BSFs to all the apartments whether they currently have whole home or not, so the problem has gone away for ever.

I just went down and looked inside the cabinet where we use ot have cable and now the D* lines are hooked to. This box has the hookups for the apartments (as written on the front of the box)

how many band stop filters do I see?

TWO!
Mine and someone elses....hmm guess folks dont like to DVR stuff ;)

Well crap its still recording random shows even though I changed the whole home setting.

If they have already been set up to record it will still record them.
Go into the series manager and remove anything that you did not set up.

agreed. Sounds like there are some series set to record. You can remove them by going into the recordings...under series and just remove them

But I never set to record them in the first place, that's what's driving me crazy. And they are not in the series manager or anything so I cant 'unrecord' them.

For instance, all this stuff I havent set to record except Mob Wives. Even this poker series stuff when I click on it, there is no option to unrecord the series. dtv.jpgdtv2.jpg

ok...to remove series that are set up to record

MENU
down to RECORDINGS
over to MANAGE RECORDINGS (see 1st pic)
down to SERIES MANAGER
then scroll to the series to delete and press the RED button (as it shows in the bottom of pic 2)

to remove a recording that has already been done bring up the list like you did on your pic posted above and press the red button to delete. If there is a folder just scroll to the folder name and press red button. It will ask you if you want to remove all programs from that folder.
For anything currently recording it will ask you if you want to stop the recording first

The shows are not in the series manager, that's what I'm trying to say. There is no way to stop recording them.

weird.......then go into your recordings (1st pic you posted) and find the item recording and hit the red button. That will stop the recording

I'm calling these f'ers tomorrow a million times until they answer lol. So frustrated.

Wow!! So I just called my neighbor who I know watches poker and sure enough it's all their shows that are recording on mine and we were deleting each other's shows! They have a genie box. So we are both calling tomorrow and having them fix this!!!

I guess its good you figured out who is recording.
What receiver model do you have? (the HD DVR not the SD box)

But yeah they REALLY need to get that fixed...right away
