New Apple Watch 4 for 2018 Rumors and Facts

I had my cardiology consult and posed the question: Are you aware of the new ECG on the Apple watch to be released later this year? To my surprise they were and were very excited about it. They were very impressed with the trials study and the accuracy. Said that many of their patients are planning to get the AW4 and be reporting the results for their records.
 
The watch arrived. I am setting it up on my old phone for now (the new phone is still on a Fed Ex truck). My initial thought is 44 v 42 is pretty nominal in difference. The other thing is the photos from Apple made it look more slim. I don't know, but I don't see it. Maybe a little. but not a lot different. Still, should be nice to try the new OS and features.

Ok, I just stopped at a local Apple store and picked up an Apple Watch! This will be my first smart watch ... since Casio back in 80's (and Timex in 90's). :)
I am still not fully convinced that I really need it, but figured it's time to give it a try.
 
I tried pairing it with my iPhone X. No go! Says my iOS is outdated! Downloading iOS 12 now. Will be awhile...
 
I am new to Apple Watch. Is there anyway to make the display stay on for longer than just 4 seconds?
 
On the watch go to settings then general then wake screen then scroll to the bottom.

So far I like the Watch! Perfect size and fit for my hand. Not too heavy. Still learning its features and capabilities.
Any must-have apps?
 
I decided that I wanted the AW4 cellular version this time. The new watch for the bigger screen, fall detection and the upcoming ecg app. Cellular so I can make calls without the phone.

Checked online and actually ordered from Apple, but it was a long time to ship, about a month. So back to the Verizon store and they had the one I wanted in stock, a few minutes later I’m out the door.

Costs me $8.50/month with military discount, so that’s not too bad. If I were to change to one of their unlimited plans, the phone service is free if I read the website right.

So far I’m loving it. Easier to read and seems quicker though the AW3 was no slouch either

Not sure I like that fall detection.

So my XsMax was on top of my wireless battery charger to test it out. Something triggered the vibrator, probably a phone call as I never use a ring tone anymore. The XsMax vibrated off the charger and across the table and fell to the floor. A siren when off alerting me to the SOS call and I caught it and cancelled the 911 call. Went into settings and shut it off. I thought this was only on the AW4, not the iphone too. Anyway, I shut it off and the phone fell about 30 inches to the floor and nothing broke.
 
That’s the first time I’ve heard about it working on the phone. Odd, there isn’t a setting for fall detection except in the phone app.

Just tested the fast USB-C charging. Works pretty good. Will raise the battery from 20% to 70% in 40 minutes. Then it returns to slower charge and takes another 45 minutes to get to 100%. I've had the screen time on 100% for the day so battery charging is really nice. I bought a 3rd party cable and power pack that is 29watt same as the Apple one for half price.

A new feature for AW4 is Audible books can be loaded onto the watch and then use Airpods to listen. Don't need the iphone after loading to the watch. Now I can go jogging with just the watch and listen to the audiobook. Have to have the watch on the mag charger to transfer the book.

I pretty much just use Outlook, Messenger, Weather Channel, and stock apps plus the biking app I use, Cyclemeter, which works great. The app is on my phone, but the AW provides heart rate, to go with the bike speed/cadence the app pulls from the bluetooth sensor on the bike. And then displays it on a Wahoo RFLTK bike computer.

As far as stock apps, I regularly use stuff like the timer, workout, for tracking walks, and of course, Activity, which I pay attention to all the time.

I love seeing an email come in, glancing at it, and selecting DELETE.

Experimented creating an emoji of my face and I crashed the app. That's what an ugly face will do I guess. Rebooted the phone and second time I was successful by selecting a starting point as an old man. Can't fool AI I suppose.

This has to do with new software update since I’m still using AW3. Since the update the Watch is tracking more calories on walk or run. Outdoor cycling, tennis, weightlifting and elliptical are pretty much the same before update. Still using no external while doing weightlifting and tennis and still amazed on how spot on it has become. Here are two graphs of two different walk/jog/walk on the same track on different days. Usually get around 260-280 active cals burned like the first graph but look at the second graph. Never that high before. I will say now the AW tracks closer to active calories burned to Garmin and Fitbit. You can see the heart rate average is higher on the first but still burned more on the second graph with a much lower heart rate average.

I haven't activated Cellular on my Watch yet. How does it work? Do I get a different phone number for the watch? Or can the same phone number be shared between the phone and the watch?
