I probably should have my husband respond to any messages I get from this, as I am NOT good with electronics.

We have Dish Network in our house...we've had it for quite a while (maybe 2-3 years) prior to that we had Direct TV, and before that Primestar. We switched because Dish network offered us 4 receivers (2 with dvr) for the same as what we were paying for one without dvr from Direct tv.

We have two receivers that have DVR's on them (the one in our living room and the one in our bedroom). I think these run off of each other (I don't know), and are "#1". In our son's room and the family room in our basement, we have two receivers which DO NOT have DVRs. I think that these run off of each other. The kids have managed to lose the remote to the one in the basement family room. So question #1, can I buy a remote off of ebay or something? They used to have them at radio shack (I'd seen them there before when we DIDN'T need one) but now they no longer have them. They are all over on ebay, how can I make sure the new one will work?

Question #2 is, I'd like to get satellite into our other kids' bedrooms...we have two other teenage kids. Will I have to order new receivers from dish network, or can I order something off of ebay?

While I am extremely NOT electronically inclined, my husband IS...very much so. He just doesn't know much about satellite TV.

Thank you so much, anyone who can help!!!!! :)

Michell,
I know for a fact that you can buy replacement remotes on E-bay while you did not post what kind of receivers you have but most receivers work with the blue botton
remote if you have a VIP receiver you need a silver remote. The DVRs need the silver remote I think.
I would call Dish and ask them what type of remote you need for the receivers that you have just to be sure.
I don't know but I think that you can only have four receivers per account.
I don't know what they do if you buy one from E-bay but I know that E-bay does have receivers for sale.
If you buy one from anyone other Dish be sure that you get the S & R numbers before you buy and check with Dish to see if there is any outstanding blance on the receiver you want to buy.
Good luck to you

You want a 6.3 UHF Pro remote, as said above, with blue tab. On reverse side, the tab is black to make it an IR remote. My guess is you have two VIP 612's and two 322's. The 612 would be IR.

If they've had the setup for 2-3 years like she said, they probably don't have any 612's. My guess would be a 625/522 and a 322 for a typical 4-room installation with 2 DVR TVs.

Mrs. mbgarvin, if you're not good with electronics and your husband doesn't know much about satellite systems, I would HIGHLY recommend buying additional receivers from Dish and having a technician come professionally install them. You will spend some coin, but it would likely be much less headache.

Otherwise, if you'd like to try to tackle this yourself, it would be easy enough to split the TV2 signals on your receivers and send those mirrored signals to additional rooms. The plus to this is you wouldn't have to pay for any additional receivers upfront and monthly on your bill. The downside is those TVs would be mirrored to other TVs and not be able to watch different channels.

On remotes, did your missing remote for the non-DVR room look like this?
Tech Portal : Remotes : 4.0 IR/UHF Pro
If so, get another one of those wherever you want and it will work after readdressing it to your receiver.

p.s. It would be very helpful if you could post the model of your receivers, generally found on the front of the receiver.

install vip622 bad switch

This might be it
