Well, first impressions are good! I like the menus, the graphics, the speed at which it scanned in the tp's was fast! It only tok about 40-70 seconds to scan in each satellite. I went back later and did a blind scan, and those took 20-30 min each. I am trying tofigure out the favorites now. I am use to the Fortec, and had those commands down, so it is a little awkard, but it is just me. I love the remote, and I too noticed that the meter is low. On kuil on the Fortec I get 86%. On the Neusat I get 71% signal and 45% pq. I like the 2 meters, and all the info that pops up when you hit info. What are your thoughts so far?

I should clarify - I guess the Green #'s are "power" and the orange is "quality" so, I show 45% power and 71% quality. Not sure what that means. I am also trying to figure out how to manually add a station. Will report back :-)

quality is all that matters :)

thats my gripe. Once the unit gets to 12200, it shuold start back at 11700 and flip polarity. Since it doesn't, I scan each polarity separate and when it gets to 12200 I stop the scan and save the chanenls. Cuts down time drastically :)

Glad to see you like the receiver, I am very happy with mine.
About the signal/quality "strength", those are just general indications.
They are different on allmost every brand of home FTA receivers.
I am sure they may be true readings on commercial equipment, I pay no attention to them, other than just a general idea of the transponder power.
I know what you mean about the remote, very nice.

Thanks for the clarification! I was amazed at the speed of the initial scan - SECONDS! And it picked up most everything!

I got all the favorites figured out, and the only thing left is to figure out how to manually add a channel. I want to add in some wild feed info, but can't figure it out! Now, I have not tried the USB drive, but am I able to "backup" the receiver settings? Way cool receiver!

To add a transponder

Bring up the antenna menu and select the satellite you want
Right arrow over to the parameters and the first one is the transponder
Hit “ok” and that throws you into a sub screen where you can override old TP’s or add new ones (I had to do this for AMC6 as it had no KU transponders in there)

You can manually scan a TP from there too

AWESOME! THANKS! That was going to be tonights project :-) I forgot to mention, I like the receivers size too, it fits perfect where I have it :-) The Fortec hung over just a little bit. I am anal, so it bothered me :-)

yes it is a very small box. And the remote is different. Its about the same size as the remote for my Sony VCR.

I have to figure out this weekend how to get everything set up now :)
(I just wish they would fix the blind scan glitch of going to 13000 MHZ when scanning.)

I actually figured out how to arrange the channels in my favorites, and then found you can also sort by aplha, satellite, encryption type, fta, normal, etc. Lots of features. The manual seems to be on par....not much detail :-) So far I would recommend this to anyone that wants a decent (and cheap) receiver. The graphics are a nice change from the Fortec (which I did like). I like all the info that comes up when you hit "info". I have noticed a few channels show "EPG", and when I hit info, it had some #'4 and the channel id. The radio channels show a nice "background" while the audio is playing. I did not leave it on long enough for the screen saver to come on. The 2 types of meters are nice, I have mine set to Spectrum I believe.

I turned off the screen saver (and the password crap) right away. Since I do a lot of recording I don’t want the screensaver kick in while my DVR is recording

The meter I think is spectrum (with the 2 bars on it)

Yep 2 bars, that is what mine is set at. I will leave the password on there, as my 8 year old daughter mine decide to see what else the remote can do :-)

I think I'm gonna try one myself. Sounds neat for about $70 shipped.

(In the mean time, I'm RMAing my Coolsat to FreeTech (CoolsatUSA) to fix the remote response issue. I'm royally pissed that I have to pay $20 for a WARRANTY repair. WTF?)

Gary,
There is a authorised dealer in Sunnyvale, who replaces the Coolsat receivers if you are having problem. Check that option. His advertisements are in local Craigs list. I bought the receiver from him.

Now you tell me! I just got back from FedEx, where I dropped it off!

But, thanks for the info in case I need it in the future. :)

Do you know the name of the staore, or where it's located? There's a ton of sleazy-looking ads in Craigslist for lot of places in the South Bay. It would be nice to have a local FTA retailer for parts (I just got ripped off at SlyLite in Milpitas for a longer mounting arm for my dish.)

Sorry;)
You have a PM. I do not want to advertise / endorse him here. I am sure that all those people mainly cater to hackers. When I bought the receiever, the lady at the desk wanted to know if I need some other name and address on the receipt than mine. I got receipt with my name and address on that. No tax was charged either :D
