I vote for a 16 team playoff :)

The only way to not leave some of the TOP teams out.

Start on the 1st weekend of Dec., all teams play their last game by the last weekend of November.

Do away with the Championship games, they are only there to make money anyways.

Play the games at the higher teams site, until the final two, or even the final four, I don't care.

Play the finals on New years day weekend, ON A SATURDAY NIGHT.
This way we can all see the game, no more big games in the middle of the week when we all have to get up early for work the next day.
All teams outside of the top 16 will play in regular bowl games.
We need to cut the bowl games down to about half , I think there were 32 games last year, thats 64 teams, more than half the division 1 teams.
Going to Bowl games require you be better than a .500 team, in a 12 game season, you must win 7-8 games to get in, I haven't decided yet, I'm leaning towards 8. Division 1 teams only count for wins in the Bowl system, you play div 2 teams , fine , but they don't count towards the Bowl season.

No crying from team # 17, 13-20 are all about the same.
Polls don't start till after your 4th game, well use the BCS poll, AP and Coaches, each counts for 1 point, even though the BCS poll is more thurogh.

Ideas and opinions accepted.

It's perfect the way you have it, if they don't want 16 teams, go to 12 or 8.

Either way it's time for a playoff for Div. 1 football.

A playoff system prevents too much strain on college kids' bodies physically. To expect the few players who would go deep in the playoffs would be too much.

They do still have school to focus on too. The NCAA would have to create new academic rules to see that the kids still have the best opportunity to complete their educational responsibilities accordingly.

This is why it will never happen. You might get a plus one game by taking the top 4 teams and using 2 bowls and then the championship game to help determine the champion.

So BB players have easier course schedules, or are you saying BB players are smarter than football players?

IMO this is way to many teams for a playoff. I really like how it is today where every win matters. If they were to take 16 teams you would start seeing 3 loss teams making the playoffs every year. Then you would have other 2 loss teams being left out. Thus there would more schools that feel they should have made the playoff and we would have a larger problem than today.

Sorry Joe,
I disagree entirely, Every other division does it and the basketball teams fly to Hawaii and Alaska all the time for tournaments .

There will only be 16 teams playing after November, only 8 after the first week in Dec., your Conference championships play later than that already.

The Big Ten goes from Nov 17th till Jan 1st at the earliest (they play a 12 game schedule like everyone else, they don't normally have weeks off before a big game).

45 days off till the 1st of Jan, plus more days if they go to the bigger games, thanks to the NCAA spreading out all the games now.

Not that many teams would be involved, less every week, so the school issue is INVALID ....

Next....

btw, who do we need to get this to to have someone actually look into it ?

Hardly, the playoff system would make so much more money than the Conference Championship it's rediculas.

Can you imagine the hype and money that would be involved ?

Thats why I decided on 16 (remember when the polls were 16)
With 16 you get a wide variety of teams some that probably don't need to be there, but it's fairer to all, like I said 13 to 20 are all pretty much the same.

I really don't want to drop it to 8 because most consider the TOP 10 as the elite, if you go with 8 you saying that the # 10 team could not play with the # 7-8 teams, and I think they can most years.

I never said it wouldn't make more money than the Conference Championship. The bowl games is where there would not be as much money made. It is all about the money and if they would make more money in a playoff system it would have been there all along.

It would have to make more money as a playoff, the sponsors would make sure of that :)

Why? Do you really think that 10,000+ OSU fans will travel to every game of the playoff without having a ticket like they do for the bowls? Most fans will wait to spend their money for the last game. You may get a lot of local fans but I don't think you will see as many travel as they would normally.

Also I really don't think that the sponsors will pay as much money. I don't see the Nokia 2nd round playoff game in our future. You will lose all the big dollars from the corporations except for the Championship game.

first two round at the higher seeded teams field. then move on to bowl locations.

Travelling would then only be for two games, and if thats the case YES I do think fans will travel to see those games.

Sponsors would go crazy if this happened, they would be selling commercials like the SB for the finals (not as much, but quite abit)

You would have different sponsors for each location so there would not be a need for a sponsor doing more than one game, thus upping the money for the game.

The championship game already has high rates for there commercials. I don't see the benefit.

We will just have to agree to disagree.

Bull Crap. Division 1-AA has done it for years and years and they have had no problem.

So BB players have easier course schedules, or are you saying BB players are smarter than football players?

Basketball and football are two different sports. I played both as well as baseball. If you are fit, baseball and basketball are not straining on the body like football is. After playing a football game, you are in physical distress for a few days following your games. That in turn takes a toll on your mental fitness over the course of a season. This is why players come into a new season all primed and ready to go. Because they have had adequate physical and mental rest.

This is why no league all the way down to rocket football play games within a week of each other. The only exception I have seen is in the NFL on the rare occasion a team plays a Sunday game and a Thursday game. But they are granted almost the entire time between off physically from practice.

Football is very hard on the body no matter what position you play on the field. Taking hits and getting your head banged around is not good for you at all.

Basketball is 90% an endurance sport.

You need to study more about college schedules. I have seen on many occasions where teams have played on Saturday and then play on the following Thursday. For example West Viginia, they played saturday and now have to play on thursday this week. It happens all the time.

A Playoff systems is what they need. It will be so much better. Look at the match ups if the playoffs started today with the top 16 teams. GOTTA LOV IT!
I will go with the AP rankings:
1 USC vs 16 ARKANSAS
2 LSU vs 15 GEORGIA TECH
3 OKLAHOMA vs 14 NEBRASKA
4 WEST VIRGINIA vs 13 RUTGERS
5 FLORIDA vs 12 PENN STATE
6 TEXAS vs 11 UCLA
7 WISCONSIN vs 10 OHIO STATE
8 CALIFORNIA vs 9 LOUISVILLE
