NCAA Football 2014 season

They should have just taken the top 4 out of the BCS. What they have created now is a ridiculous knee jerk every week putting the eye candy of the day into the top 4 while leaving 1 or 2 solid teams at 5 and 6 that could pound the snot out of the paper tigers in the top 4. Adding this condolezza rice BS homer panel just makes this whole thing incredibly arbitrary. TCU is in while the 4th strength of schedule sits outside at number 5. Absurd. Frankly if miss st beats Bama they should be allowed another loss and not fall out of the top 4, but they will get no such credit for it. And what business does this BS panel have sending messages?

The justification for putting TCU ahead of Baylor when both have one loss and Baylor won the head to head is ridiculous. I mean I get that there are alot of one loss teams and you have to pick one (or two). Arguments can be made for all of them at this point.
But when two have played each other, and you pick the one that lost? What is that?

It's a sign of a dysfunctional committee that wants to buy the shiny thing in the window

She at least admitted she was not an expert about "feetsball." The rest all have agendas to follow, so I don't see how this is any better than the old BCS format as far as picking the Top 4, although Notre Lame making it into the NCG was a joke, at best (due to human poll bias way more than any SEC team has ever received.)

Can't we all just get along. LOL.
Somebody will be left out of the top 4 that believes they deserve to be in. If it were 16 teams then the 17th team will think they should have been in.
That's the way it will be no matter what amount of teams they pick.

Now that Alabama has been bumped from the top 4, the SEC folk are howling...

As it is, Alabama will be back just as soon as they beat Miss St., and the Cowbells will quickly return next year to being the Vandy of the West (minus the academics).

With all the other big conferences having potential 1-loss champions, there was no way the SEC was going to get multiple 1-loss teams in, and definitely not any 2-loss teams. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

What the SEC needs to be worried about, is if Miss St. or Alabama lose to Missouri or Georgia in the SEC Championship. If that happens, there will be no SEC team in the 4-team playoff, as Ohio State will have leapt over the loser of Miss St.-Alabama, and then will leap over the one that loses the SEC Championship game (the loser of the Oregon-Arizona St. Pac-16 championship game will also be lept over, and once/if Ohio St. wins the BigTen Championship game, they'll leap Baylor).

As for Oregon leaping over FSU, that I can't see any justification for. A major 1-loss team should not jump a major undefeated team.

No doubt about that, as I have stated from the beginning. This just moves the discussion down the ranking line.
I am just concerned as to how they are coming to these decisions on rankings.

It is not Bama being outside at this point that makes me comment. Although I certainly think they should be in, any one loss team can have a valid argument, and we get our chance this weekend. Maybe.

Hell, the way they have the baylor /tcu flip flop bonanza, Bama could win against state, and the committee could still leave State in and Bama out. It seems head to head means very little to them.

That in addition to Oregon over FSU, is what makes this ranking laughable.

Of course, oregon being 2 and fsu being 3 means little other than the color jersey they would wear.
Were I FSU id pray for a jump to first or a fall to 4. That means the difference between playing in New Orleans or going across the country.

If Alabama knocks off Miss. St., then FSU would play in New Orleans as they'd be either #1 or Oregon would be and they'd be #2. Either scenario puts FSU in the Sugar Bowl and Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

No, the #1 and #4 play in the Sugar.
#2 and #3 play in the Rose.

So if FSU stays in their current slot or moves up one, they go to Pasadena.
If Oregon gets the Top slot, they come to New Orleans. Same if they drop to #4.

Or so I read at one time. Perhaps I am wrong as I am now reading a prediction where a #1 FSU and a #4 Baylor could play in the Rose and a #2 Bama and a #3 Oregon would play in the Sugar.

At one time I know the scenario I posted above was correct. I do know that if the season ended today FSU and Oregon would be in the Rose, and State and TCU would be in the sugar, which goes along with what I had posted.

No, the #1 and #4 play in the Sugar.
#2 and #3 play in the Rose.
Nope.

The #1 plays in the bowl game that is closest to them. That's why the semi's are paired in a way to put 1 in the East and one in the West. #2, #3, and #4's locations are based on where #1 goes.

Semi-Pairings
Rose/Sugar
Cotton/Orange
Fiesta/Peach

Then why would this projection put a #1 FSU in the Rose Bowl against a #4 Baylor and a #2 Bama in the sugar against a #3 Oregon?

College Football Playoff Projections: Week 12
College Football Playoff Date Location Matchup Prediction
Championship Bowl Jan. 12 Arlington, Texas Semifinal winners Florida State vs. Oregon
Sugar Bowl Jan. 1 New Orleans, Louisiana Semifinal No. 2 Alabama vs. No. 3 Oregon
Rose Bowl Jan. 1 Pasadena, California Semifinal No. 1 Florida State vs. No. 4 Baylor

I am not saying you are wrong, I just know I have read it the way I posted before, and now I am not so sure, but the projections are all over the place.
If anything, I think this shows that nobody knows what in the hell is going on. lol

Because they're wrong.

If you read the Selection committee rules, they say "The selection committee will seed the two semifinal games to prevent the top seed from playing in a "road" environment."

It's why the semi's were paired as they were, and why a #1 FSU would play in the Sugar and not the Rose.

I also see this :When assigning teams to sites, the committee will place the top two seeds at the most advantageous sites, weighing criteria such as convenience of travel for its fans, home-crowd advantage or disadvantage and general familiarity with the host city and its stadium. Preference will go to the No. 1 seed.

Which would leave any team open to any location, with preference going to number one, but no set spot except 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3.

SI with the exact same teams as the Bleacher report with the exact same #1-4 placements puts FSU/Oregon in the Sugar and Alabama/Baylor in the Rose.

This contradicts the Bleacher report, but follows the playoff seeding rules in regards to where #1 goes, as #1 would be closer to the Sugar, and farther from the Rose than would the #2. Since preference goes to #1, that puts FSU in the Sugar.

But with the link I showed above, which is the legit playoff site (i think), it shows that while the #1 would get preference, the locations are not set in stone. They could send #1 and #4 to either location.

They will likely try to keep them closer to the fan bases, but I see nothing that says that they are obligated to do so.
