Sounds like you're the one that's a little "passioned." Guess I hit a nerve mentioning the USC loss. Don't know why though. They didn't have much of a defense last year, and there was no reason to think that miraculously changed over the summer, especially to rate them preseason #1. Regardless, I'll try not to bring it up again. Or maybe it was the "lowly" part about Stanford that stimulated your adrenaline gland. I was being sarcastic when I put that in. Stanford is a good team.

As for the LSU ranking this week, I'm fine with it. They played terribly offensively against lowly Auburn (not being sarcastic this time;)), fumbling and dropping passes the entire game. Not sure if it was due to their first game on the road in hostile SEC territory, or their lack of talent on offense. I'm just glad they still had the defense to pull out the win and I'll take that #3 ranking anyday (would've taken a #4). That's enough to keep them in the running for an NC if they are capable. Could've lost all that just like the Trojans did...oops, said I wouldn't bring that up again...sorry. :)

Nothing impassioned about it, just an objective observation. I'm not a Trojan fan by a long shot, but every SEC fan on this forum has an inflated opinion of the SEC and constantly disparages other conferences, especially if they are a threat to take a run at the national championship. This year, I don't see the overall strength in the SEC nor any other conference for that matter. In comparison to last year, the conference showing the most improvement o the BCS conferences is the Pac-12. The Big 10, Big East and ACC or really down overall. The WAC, MWC and MAC have been holding their own against the so-called power conferences. The polls are always a joke early in the year at best, but this year there is so much mediocrity that they should disband them altogether. All of these walkover games are ruining college football. There's no excuse for some of the teams on the schedules of Alabama and LSU.

As for the Polls, the Coaches poll is NEVER right.
I really don't pay any attention to it as I would rather have my teams coaches, coaching MY team than wasting time evaluating other teams that they will NOT be playing this current year.
Even worse, the coaches has a built in bias. Just look what happened with Kiffin, and why he's no longer a voter. Coaches can (and do) intentionally vote their team and conference mates higher in order to increase the appearance of their own strength of schedule. They'll also lower the vote on teams that are close to their own to protect their own ratings. At least in the AP, their is no overt conflict of interest.

Just Bama and LSU?

What about Oregon :
Arkansas State
Tennessee Tech
Fresno State

Or FSU:
Murray State
Savannah State
Va Tech (lol, couldnt help it)

Or Clemson:
Ball State
Furman

Va Tech:
Austin Peavy
Bowling Green

K State:
Missouri State
North Texas

Just looking through the top ranked teams, nearly all of them have cupcakes (and more than a couple), either OOC or In.

Of course some teams, Bama being one (and I mention them because I am more familiar obviously) do make an effort to schedule a big name program nearly every year. Over the past few, Bama has played either a neutral site or home and home with Michigan, Clemson, Va Tech, Penn State, FSU, Oklahoma, and UCLA.

And they have Va Tech again next year, West Virginia the year after, Michigan State for a home and home in 2016 and 17, and a home and home against Ga Tech in 2019/2020.

This is in addition to playing against teams such as LSU, Auburn, Arkansas (excuse this year, the wheels totally came off, I am talking recent sustained success), Miss State, Florida, Tennessee, USC, ect. Try to diminish the SEC if you want, and they may be down this year in the middle of the pack, but recent success speaks for itself. A cupcake or two does not lessen the schedule at all IMO. It seems that you want them to play the in conference schedule and all of the OOC teams that I mentioned at the same time. (which I personally would LOVE)

I agree with almost everything you say...except your last sentence where you "disparage" LSU and Alabama but conveniently leave out Oregon, USC, Florida State, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, etc., etc., etc...and of course your remark about "every SEC fan on this forum." Funny how biased one's perspective can be, isn't it? You see all SEC fans bragging and knocking other conferences (when it's just vurbano...I hope that gump meat-grinder he pulls for chokes on corndogs come Nov. 3rd. ;)). I see most SEC fans having fun enjoying the current success of their teams, and some non-SEC fans (certainly not all) become a little too angry and confrontational to be posting in a sports forum.

But it's all good fun and why we're all here (most of us anyway). :)

I along with many other VT fans don't like the neutral site agreement for playing Alabama again. They should have did a 2 year thing and swapped home fields. Just as ND is coming to the ACC (just not football) at least they will play 5 teams annually which VT will fight to make sure its a home/away setup cause many fans want to travel there as just be home to watch them play. At least OSU did a home/away play meeting with VT in the coming years rather some stupid neutral field. I'm really against next years opening game against Bama for this reason. Look at the VT vs Cincy coming up this Sat - playing in FedEx field..I mean WTF!?!? WHY? They can't sell all the tickets and are advertising like crazy - me like many others don't like FedEx field and don't wish to spend $300 for a seat that doesn't require oxygen.

sorry, but if your complaining about playing someone on a neutral field, then maybe you don't deserve to play them in the first place.

And you won't have to worry about the game selling out, as I'm sure the Tide fans have no problems doing that.
Georigia plays Florida at a neutral site every year at the Gater Bowl, and there's never been a problem selling that place out.

Besides, I keep hearing how VT supposedly owns the DC market, shouldn't they be able to sell it out each and every time?

The ND setup has them playing 3/2 each season. 3 in South Bend and 2 in ACC stadiums one season and then the reverse the next. Also the ACC determines who plays each year and is only guaranteeing that each team will play ND every 3 years, so there is no guarantee you will get ND at home and if you do it will likely be once every 6 years at the most.

You missed the point as always... completely missed it by miles and I'm not even going to try to explain it but I'll say this - there should be a home/away type setup just OSU/VT have in the coming years - tired of money dictating a fans experience.

I would love to go to see them play Cincy but I don't like FedEx field - Horrible! I also don't have the money to throw around like many others. We love our team but it's either that or pay a bill so stop trying to guilt trip fans when you don't understand their motives.

Harvey's at it again.

Harvey Updyke, the man allegedly responsible for poisoning the Toomer's Corner oak trees, was arrested in Louisiana on Sept. 18 and charged with terrorizing.
Updyke, 64, was trying to return a lawn mower to a home improvement store and became angry when the manager wouldn't credit him the full $150, the police report says.
When the arresting officer suggested Updyke call a lawyer, the Alabama football fan refused, saying "he would take care of this on his own," the Times-Picayune reported on its website Monday.
"He had a sad story," Hammond Police spokesman Lt. Vincent Giannobile said, according to the paper. "He said he was going to prison anyway, he had a bad heart, and he didn't care. He kept insinuating that he wasn't going to take no for an answer."
Updyke, who is also wanted in Texas on the same charge, is scheduled to stand trial Oct. 1 for the Auburn tree poisoning. He is accused of poisoning the century-old trees after the Tigers beat the Crimson Tide during Auburn's 2010 national title season. Updyke has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect on charges that include criminal mischief and desecrating a venerable object.

There should be? Why? Because you say so? Evidently the powers that be at VPI don't agree, neither does the Tide. Face it, VT is not good enough in Alabama's eyes to rate the same deal that Penn St. got. Personally I wish our deal with the 'tide was neutral sites, the dome is fun to go to, but our deal with them is home/home. Worse is that it was supposed to start next year, but was postponed a couple years. Also, Michigan wasn't complaining about the neutral site, nor had problems filling up Jerry World. The key to a neutral site, is to turn it into an experience. Georgia & Florida fans have no complaints about The World's Largest Cocktail Party.

for me and the purists...3 words used for 100years. Red River Shootout!

for the politically correct gun alarmists since 2005.. The new Red River Rivalry

It's hard to beat the Texas State Fair, The Cotton Bowl and OU/Texas with the fans divided down the middle of the stadium.

You say the Dome is fun but I can't afford to go to it every other year - I'm speaking of myself and many others and I'm sure I speak for many fans of every team out there. I have a hard time getting my season tickets each year and spending cash to go with them..sucks man and I'm glad you feel everyone is loaded enough to travel.

Another $$$ reason for a neutral site I see - http://espn.go.com/dallas/ncf/story...su-tigers-tcu-horned-frogs-2013-season-opener

Not all fans live close to the university stadiums either. Neutral site games allow a lot of fans to see teams they might not otherwise see in person. They are not really meant for the universities hometown crowds, as those fans already have the opportunity to see 5 or more games each season.

*gasp* someone disliked my post  How shall I ever live :( hahahaha, and to think, someone said disliking posts was nonsense, ah, I love sports :D Just wish my jackets defense didn't suck...

LSU adds another OOC cupcake game for next season.

LSU will face TCU to open the 2013 season at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
LSU will be making its second appearance in the Cowboys Classic. The Tigers opened last season in Arlington, Texas, by beating Oregon. TCU, from nearby Fort Worth, will be making its first appearance in the five-year-old marquee season kickoff game.

Good point. I think most would prefer to watch the games on campus, but I find little fault with a big game here or there held at a neutral location. It gives the program more exposure, and allows many long distance fans to finally see their teams in person.

I did it on purpose - you missed the point again but thanks for the gasp and whatever.

I didn't miss any point, and I know why you did it. My "gasping" was in having fun with it after you moaned about someone disliking your post.

My post was all in good fun, as I'm sure most here saw it.
Originally I was going to dislike several of my posts and complain about being disliked, but alas the system won't let us do that, so I decided to have fun being a "drama queen" :D
