NCAA Football 2007-08

Yeah, now if LSU wins next week, it's probable the top 2 teams at the end of the year will be both from the SEC
#1 LSU
#2 UGa

To bad they didn't get to play each other this year.

Wonder where WVU and USC fit into the equation after the poundings they dished out.

Both were ranked lower than UGa in both polls (UGa #4, USC #6, wv #9(coaches)/#11(ap), so USC will probably finish #4 (1 slot higher is #5 VaTech loses). WV has a much tougher climb (since #7 Missouri won their game).

AP
#1 Ohio State - TBD next week
#2 LSU - TBD next week
#3 Oklahoma - Lost to #11 West Virginia
#4 Georgia - Beat #10 Hawaii
#5 Virginia Tech - TBD (tonight against #8 Kansas)
#6 USC - Beat #13 Illinois
#7 Missouri - Beat #25 Arkansas
#8 Kansas - TBD (tonight against #5 Virginia Tech)
#9 Florida - Lost to unranked Michigan
#10 Hawaii - Lost to #4 Georgia
#11 West Virgina - Beat #3 Oklahoma

Coaches

#7 Missouri - Beat #25 Arkansas
#8 Kansas - TBD (tonight against #5 Virginia Tech)
#9 West Virgina - Beat #3 Oklahoma
#10 Hawaii - Lost to #4 Georgia

Based on the above listings;
#1 LSU/Ohio State winner (AP is a wild card, a lackluster game might throw some #1 votes to Georgia and/or USC, but I think it will be an LSU blowout).
#2 Georgia
#3 USC (Georgia edging out USC as they are currently ranked higher and beat a higher ranked team).
#4 LSU/Ohio State loser (I'm guessing it will be Ohio St).
#5 Virginia Tech (if they win tonight. They might go higher if they crush Kansas, but I see a close game).
#6 Missouri
#7 West Virginia (like I said, too far to climb, and not enough teams losing above them).

WVU beat the #3 ranked team and that has to be considered too.

Bad timing.
I agree. Ga, USC, and Missouri have given the pollsters no reason for WV to leapfrog them. The winner of the VaTech/Kansas game likely won't either. WV's regular season schedule doesn't help matters either. Their loss was early, but none of their regular season opponents are still in the top 20.

So Derwin,
You have already decided that LSU beats Ohio State (and you said a BLOWOUT) What happens to your Mythical situation is Ohio State beat LSU .... Is Georgia still your number 1 team ?

What happens if Ohio State Blows out LSU is Georgia still your number 1 team.
Everyone seems to think that this game will be boring, I don't see it.

Just because they play GREAT D the teams lose respect among the rest of you all figuring that it will be a boring game.

I'd much rather play GREAT D and win than play a 48-45 game and wonder where the D* went.

Where's Oklahoma 's great D today ? Where WV great D* ?, Florida and Michigan's ?

I have Georgia as #2 no mater who wins between LSU and Ohio State, the only way Georgia gets some #1 votes in the AP (AP votes are not contingent on BCS rules, while UGa might get some #1 votes, they still won't get enough to take the position though) is if the game is lackluster on both teams parts. That's why in the #1 & #4 slots I put either LSU/Ohio State winner or loser.

Some fail to remember that Oklahoma was only ranked # 10 going into the last two weeks of the BSC season.
When they beat #1 Missouri, and then beat them again, to move way up.

But this has been a very strange year. Pitt beats WV, OU beats Missouri (twice), WV beats OU, and Missouri may end up ranked above both WV and OU.

I can go with UGA being #2 regardless of the BCS Championship, but they in NO WAY do they deserve any 1st place votes, regardless of how they are playing. IF you cannot play for your OWN conference championship, until there is a playoff system, you don't deserve to play for THE championship or get 1st place votes.

THAT is my opinion, of course, and I would not be surprised if there was disagreements with it.

You cannot go by the well this team beat that team and thta means that that team would beat this team.

Every team is different from week to week.
Illinois had an exceptional week against Ohio State , suddenly , no one thinks Ohio State can play.
USC loses to Stanford and no one seems to care.
I know they played with thier back up QB, the Buckeyes have played with a guy that had ZERO starts until this season.

I fully expect there to be a SPLIT NC this year.

I don't think so. WHOMEVER wins the BCS Championship, to me, is THE obvious the champion.... period. IF you don't think so, then the teams that lost games...shouldn't have....plain and simple. This thing about "they ARE one of/the hottest team in the country" blah, blah...that is bs.
Just like rankings before they play a single game...ridiculous. I would have to say, THIS year, the two best teams ARE playing for the championship.

With who?
I could see Georgia, Va Tech and/or USC getting a couple #1 votes in the AP but I don't see either of them getting more than the LSU/Ohio State winner.

Final regular season AP #1 votes:
Ohio State - 50
LSU - 11
Oklahoma - 1
Georgia - 1
Va Tech - 1
Hawaii - 1

If Ohio State wins, then they'll probably keep all 50 of their #1 votes and gets some more.

If LSU wins, they have already beaten Va Tech earlier in the season, so that eliminates Va Tech. They didn't play Georgia this year and have the same record, but I can't see enough pollsters giving Georgia more votes than LSU. Similarly I don't see USC getting more votes either.

IF Ohio State beats LSU I am sure you will see people saying that USC and OR Georgia deserve to be number 1 as well.
