NCAA Basketball 2008-09 Season

But back to the subject at hand, there is still an extremely good chance both Duke and NC will be 1 or 2 seeds...in which case the three times they play each other over the next six weeks won't determine anything.

The only thing that will matter in the long run is how they do in the big dance.
Yeah but everyone gets their heart broken eventually in the tournament. This isn't like football where you can end the season with several teams bragging about winning meaningless bowl games. So the head to head matchups really are the only thing that lasts beyond the season, unless of course you do win it all. :D

I'd have thought you'd get this more Sandra. No matter how often Ohio St loses in bowl games they still have their wins over Michigan. How many games did John Cooper win? Whatever it was it wasn't enough because of his inability to beat Michigan.

This is pretty much what I've been saying. It's all about bragging rights.

All too often the Ohio State Michigan game has no bearing on the national championship game, so that's all they have...bragging rights. But thankfully basketball is different from football...Duke, NC, and a whole bunch of other ACC teams will get their shot at glory in March, regardless the outcome of the Duke-North Carolina games.

Sandra

Exactly. Bragging rights.

Obviously this applies to every team in college basketball. A February losing streak is bad.

3 Times? You can't assume they will play each other in the ACC tourney.

The stage is set. Carolina and dook both win today (dook should have lost) and now the greatest rivalry in sports, yeah I said it, renews itself Wed.

This is an absolutely funny score.

At halftime, it's Arizona State 19, Oregon State 13!

Also, two big upsets:

Florida State beat Clemson, again proving my theory of "teams tend to underperform after a big, emotional win".

Xavier, the one decent team in the Atlantic 10, lost to freaking Duquesne.

That's a huge win for Florida St. They've been on the bubble the last 3-4 years and always get left out. There's 8 ACC teams now that have a legit shot at making the tournament, and the ACC doesn't need 16 teams to make that a reality. The ACC Tournament is going to be crazy this year with this many good teams.

Ol' Herb can take the air out of the ball with the best of them. If it were possible score negative points in a game I'm sure Herb's teams would do it. :haha

Wow, Duke looks soooo over-rated. Right now they look like paper tigers, the New York Rangers of college basketball. They even lost to Michigan earlier in the season. They could get exposed early in the games that matter, March Madness.

Clemson's collapse at home to Florida St is alarming too. The buckled under the pressure. Starting to wonder if the ACC is Carolina and just a bunch of good teams, but nobody else who is a threat to win the championship. A lot of parity. The tournament will tell all.

Should be a walkover for Carolina this week.

Just like Boston College was SUPPOSED to be a cakewalk for the Heels and South Florida was SUPPOSED to be a walkover for Marquette?

Overrated? What else is new. Walkover? I doubt it. I hope we kill them but I'm expecting them to play out of their minds. This will be like a 15 round heavyweight fight. Just win baby!
