NBA Lockout thread

As of this morning, Brossard from ESPN states that according to sources, the FINAL offer is 49-51(PLAYERS edge). The players have until Wednesday to take the offer, after that, the offers will get worse.

Now, IMHO, the players will say no and decertify. The rumors are there are enough players in favor of doing this. The players feel(and I cannot blame them one bit) that the owners have concedes NOTHING(which they haven't) and the players, if they accept the offer, would have conceded approx. $800 million in BRI(according to most accounts, for every 1% from the previous CBA, its $100 million). Look for the season to end and lawsuits galour.

Amazing how things turn on a dime. That is twice now that both parties had intense meeting where there were all kinds of rumors and hope this deal would be made ...then BAM! Talks end ugly.

My misread of the tweet(I thought the players was the front half of the split). But there is no doubt there is mistrust:

Kessler said the proposal was really 50.2 percent for the players and called the chance of them ever reaching 51 percent a "fraud" and an "illusion."

Wow, so now there is a group of owners who want to lower the players take below 50 percent. Because they realize (just like some girl did a long time ago!!!!) that the players have ZERO leverage in these negotations.

At the risk of snapping a bra strap patting myself on the back...it's a little freaky how right I've been during these negotiations. This rabbit knows too much!!!

They DO have levarage. All the players need is to get 30% of the players, which from what I read, is literally already there... to decertify. IF they do that, they will have the ownership on their heels because then each player can file individual lawsuits against the NBA.

THAT is the only leverage they have...and a STRONG one at that. The NBA wants no part of losing the anti-trust gig they want going on. And don't think that for one minute OTHER labor unions are not watching this closing.

Did decertification help the nflpa?

LOL decertification is not as simple as stated above...surprise surprise. It never is in here.

There are many tentacles to that. A court case could take years...decertificaion could actually also scare the union into accepting what the owners are offering.

Nobody said it was easy. The idea to decertify is to take a shot at the anti-trust the NBA has. The court cases could take years, yes, but if you were to have 50-100 players filing at the same time...that can cause the NBA to possibly lose their anti-trust exemption.

You have indeed been spot on Sandra. NBAPA has zero leverage.

If indeed decertification comes about we can gladly kiss off the 2011-2012 season. Who knows if they will be back for the 2012-2013 season?

Something to think about.

Stern needs to keep the hard line intact and his boot of oppression squarely across the Union's windpipe.

Tell them the Pct point drops one point with each passing week.

To each his own.

It's not that easy.to start a league would require more money than the players have and smarts that most players don't have.

Oh...I wouldn't toot the horns of the "intelligent owner" too loud...these are the same guys that give players like Gilbert Arenas, Rashard Lewis and Michael Redd the same amount of money as Kobe, Lebron, Wade and Durrant.

And to answer the question, most if not all the owners own their stadiums and have deals with local and state governments. It's not as easy as you stated Rey.

Yeah...you know a lot of the players have already spent the money they're not receiving. Definitely a chance the players will fold like a Long Island circus tent.

Where did I say it was that easy? I gave two fair examples.and you further proved my point with your comment about the owners having deals with local and state governments. And I'm not tooting anyone's horn salsa.saying most players lack the intelligence needed to start their own league doesn't mean I think the owners are geniuses.come on you know me better than that.

Was not ment toward you, Juan asked why the players did not start their own league. I was trying to knock 2 birds, in this case, 2 post with one stone..so to speak.

Anthony Parker, the representative for the Cleveland Cavaliers, said he is for rejecting the league's offer, while one player rep who did not want to be identified told ESPN.com that he is leaning toward voting to accept the deal.

"Most of the people I'm talking with don't like the deal," Parker said. "We don't think it's a good deal for the players."

Parker said he realizes that if the players reject the deal, decertification may be their only option.

"Being for decertification does not mean you want the season to be cancelled," said Parker. "Even if we decertify there will still be plenty of time to get a deal done and that's our hope."

Anthony Parker makes 2 TIMES less than the NBA average...
