NBA Lockout Thread

No wonder 22 of 30 teams lost money...

Sandra

In real terms, NBA revenues have been flat over the past few years. And player salaries have also been flat. That's not great. You like to see real wage growth and real revenue growth. At the same time, NBA players earn some of the highest wages in the world and NBA franchise owners are even richer, so basically it's all good. But while player salary costs are growing at roughly the rate of overall inflation, other expenses are growing at five times the rate of inflation.

Can't blame the players for the above. The owners are not being smart with their money and acting like kids in a candy store.

Yes..."OTHER EXPENSES".

Did YOU read the entire article? They spend way too much on choice hotels, fancy private chartered planes and if they are to attend a league event, super fancy cars picking the players and coaches up.

Keep reading, especially the link associated to the this article:

Taking a look at the numbers behind the NBA labor dispute «

I especially loved THIS part:

The key fact to start with is the following: Players salaries are a fixed Cost at 57% of League Gross revenue.

Let’s repeat that: Players salaries are a fixed Cost at 57% of League Gross revenue!

OK, so you're saying the owners need to stop paying for these things for the players. Got it.

OK so you think the owners should put the players up in second rate hotels and let the players fly coach. Understand.

Sandra

OH GOD, did you see ANYWHERE where I said that?!! Really? Seriously? What I am saying is that they go overboard in everything they pay for...when you do that, of course it's going to cost. You cannot hold the players accountable for how the owners spend their money.

You guys moan and bitch about how coddled players are...but yet...over never mind...we live in a world that want it both ways.

I'm pretty sure the players would throw a hissy fit or demand to be traded if the owners cheaped out on travel and overnight expenses.

And I am sure that the moment the owners would show that it is not part of the CBA and that they would give in to some of their demands in return to slowly phasing out some of the extreme high end luxury they get... EVERYTHING is negociable.

Yeah, the players (and probably an internet poster) would make a huge stink if the owners cut back on expense that players directly get the benefit of. Yet when the owners do spend the money on them, they blame the owners for that too.

Some people want it both ways. ;)
