NBA Basketball 2009-10 Season

The Cavs have fared well on special promotional giveaway nights.

World Record Snuggie Night- comeback from a 21-point deficit, LeBron goes for 40

Facemask night against the Knicks- LeBron has a 22-point first quarter, finishes with 46

Cavaliers: 2009-10 Promotions and Giveaways

They have two upcoming McFamily nights and Guys Nite Out (I'm going with this one- Indiana plays defense as well as I do).

I predict in one of those games, LeBron will go for 50.

Call it a hunch, but I believe in these omens.

Pretty entertaining game going on between the Lakers and Magic right now. You can tell there's a lot of bad blood between the two teams.

Loving the Kobe Bryant/ Matt Barnes matchup. I'm not sure both of these guys will survive this battle. Wow, are they going at it!

The Lakers are in a funk right now. Lost 3 games in a row now.

Not a funk...this was a TOUGH road trip. The Bobcats maybe only 29-31, but they were something like 22-8 at home....they had not won in Miami since 2004 and they played the team they beat in the Finals. Kobe stated before the road trip that they "can easily lose all three games."

Celtics overcome a late double-digit deficit to beat the Wizards.

How do you look at the glass here?

Glass half-full- overcoming a 13-point deficit with 6:11 left

Glass half-empty- looked sluggish for most of the game against a bad Wizards team (one that had been plastered by the Bucks in their previous two games)?

2004?

I recall the Lakers beating Miami in Miami in 2008- the year L.A. got Gasol and Miami was horrifyingly bad.

The year they had that horrible year was due to injuries and the played the Lakers BEFORE the injuries kicked...when they still had Wade AND Shaq playing. The Lakers have not won IN Miami since 2004. I could be wrong though, I cannot find anywhere to confirm, but bothe the TV AND the radio broadcast stated the same thing.

Salsa, did you watch the Magic/Lakers game on Sunday? You often talk about matchups being the key in the playoffs. As a Cavs fan, I can't fathom anyone else advancing to the NBA Championships, BUT if they don't, it'll probably be the Magic. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that the Magic revealed something very interesting to me yesterday: ie. Matt Barnes and him being able to rattle/contain Kobe Bryant. This matchup will be key if these two teams ever meet again.

That was a very interesting match-up. The most interesting part...? Did you see them stand next to each other...Barnes was actually almost 3 inches TALLER than Kobe. Now they may have lost the offensive and the ball handling skills of Turko, but gained a very good defensive player on the perimeter. They pick-up Carter for his offense and Barnes for his defense. Sort of combining a Turko. I can see Barnes getting KILLED by Lebron because he is so strong when he goes to the basket. BUT, I can also see Barnes shutdown(to a certain extent)Lebron if he gets plenty of team help and contain him to mostly jump shots. He is as tall(if not taller) and as long as Lebron.

...but of course, that is always much easier said han done...:D

Yep. Exactly my thoughts.

Kobe is a jump/fall-away shooter now. Barnes defends that type of player pretty well. LeBron on the other hand always figures out a way to drive to the lane either around or through a defender. He's much more physical and Barnes wouldn't be as effective on him.

But remember, that is where the team help comes. Which is done very well by Van Gundy. He comes the Pat Reilly school of team defense.
It is VERY similar to the Jordan Rules developed/created by the Pistons of the late 80/early 90s.

I found out a piece of info that explains why I now think the Cavs are making a safe and smart decision to sit LBJ tonight: they don't play again til Friday.

That gives him four days to rest (including tonight), so I can understand it- I was just a bit surprised initially.

BTW Salsa, how do the Heat do when it comes to giving Flash some rest in the season?

I heard that LeBron was rested for their Cavs' Saturday game and may rest tonight.

Any concern coming out of Cavs Country?

No concern. In Friday's game against Detroit, LeBron tweaked his ankle. He's already went on record in saying that he's fine, but Coach Brown is forcing him to sit. It's a long season and he thinks giving him some extra time to rest will be good in the long run. If this were a playoff game, he'd surely play.
