NBA 2008-09 Season

Unless it involves AI?

In AI's case it's obvious the team is better without him. They're a perfect 8-0 when he's not in the game.

As for the Heat, it's less apparent how Jermain O'Neal has impacted the team since they're basically .500 since he joined the squad. The only thing that IS apparent though is that O'Neal's production under the basket has dropped off significantly. That's the only thing I'm pointing out here.

We went 7-2 without Hamilton and Rasheed earlier this season also. What does that say?

The bottom line in any trade is the won/loss record. You have to evaluate these things over a wider sample sometimes. In 2004, the trade for Wallace brought us an NBA championship.

You can't judge the trade based on record alone! It's obvious the Raptors are a worse team than the Heat with or without either one of these guys. This tells me nothing. Besides, the Raptors losses came by the hands of Cleveland, Phoenix, Houston and Dallas. All superior teams.

But like I said, there is one glaring part of Jermaine O'Neal's game that is lacking since the trade. I simply pointed it out as I found it quite interesting.

Understandable....I was just answering Paul's question. BUT, if you see WHAT has happened since the trade that I listed out....you cannot base the trade a bust based on his stats.

Also, Miami did not play slouch teams either...

Dude, the guy has played in 6 out of 9 games since the trade. HE JUST GOT THERE....

I never said it was a bust of a trade! Read my original post.

A month ago I said no team would benefit from this trade. It was a wash IMO. Both O'Neal and Marion have been career underachievers. And so far I'm still right about that statement.

JESUS, Mary and Joseph....it is not about the numbers!!! The Heat benefitted IN OTHER WAYS.....

For the final time.....

SINCE the O'Neal trade, Udonis Haslem has been able to GO BACK to his natural position of power foward...he was playing OUT OF PLACE at center. Michael Beasely has played MORE minutes at BOTH the power forward AND small forward AND has been more productive. AND the offensive and defensive rotation of the team is easier for Coach Spoelstra with a more natural center. They ALSO picked up another small foward that is MORE to their liking and less issues with salary cap space

Oh boy. Here he goes with the screaming and emoticons. Easy hoss.....

But anyways. I get it. The other guys are going back to their natural positions. Is everyone all comfy and cozy now? That's great. Well not really. Not if it also doesn't mean that the guy who's replacing them can't rebound the ball! Comfort and moving back to your "natural position" doesn't mean sh*t if it isn't for the greater good.

It IS for the greater good. Because they become a better team WITH salary cap space....which IN THE END, that is what they wanted. Marion was NOT in the plans because they were NOT gonna sign him. They got a POSSIBLE temp center, depending how he works out this season, everyone on the roster has picked up the slack and they didn't take a hit on the cap.

THAT to me sound like the Heat benefitted ALOT.

Huh?! You're making things up now.

The Heat are actually taking on MORE salary in this trade! O'Neal has a $23 million contract that doesn't expire for 2 more years! Marion has a $17 million contract that ends this year!

But hey, just as long as everyone is comfy and cozy in their "natural positions" as you say. The hell with the greater good.

In spirit of tonight's Boston/Cleveland game, does everyone remember the "No Regard for Human Life" dunk??

I remember that Celtic Dee Brown single-handedly revived interest in the Slam Dunk competition at a time when interest had waned to the point where they were considering discontinuing it by coming up with a bunch of original dunks, but I don't remember what their names were.

My prayers go out to former Pistons coach Chuck Daly, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. :(

Chuck's first head coaching job was at BC about 40 years ago.

God's Speed, Coach!

I'm a Celtics fan, and even I feel that it was justified that Glen Davis was ejected! :o

I thought you were better than that, Baby..........VERY CHEAP!!!

I was watching a conference tournament game; what exactly got him ejected?
