NBA 2008-09 Season

There was no celebration, no champagne, nothing really to signify the win's importance. The Cleveland Cavaliers made the playoffs and hardly cared.

I love how business this team is.

As well you should. From an outsiders perspective, they have the "look" of a champion.

Tonight's TNT doubleheader:

8:00 ET- Dallas at New Orleans

10:30 ET- Portland at Denver

No other games on the NBA schedule tonight.

If AI is "The Answer", what was the question. The question is to be answered in two weeks or more, since AI is out for at least that long with his back injury. Curry seems to think that "The Answer" will take his demotion "professionally, he won't dishonor the game". We shall see. If the Pistons can continue to win, and AI can find his game off the bench, I woudn't want to be playing this team in the playoffs. It's possible that this just part of the ebb and flow of a long NBA season, and this streak may be just that - a streak.

CAN YOU DIG IT?!

Today is Shaq's 37th birthday.

Today, I salute one of the NBA's most dominant and entertaining players that I ever saw (I wasn't alive during Bill's era of the big men of the 1970s, so don't chew me out, Billy!)

AND the biggest a$$hole in the NBA. He MAY NOT BE a "Me-Me" type of guy, but could not take anyone criticizing him if his life depended on it. Say something negative about "The Big Doofus" and you will feel his wrath.

i agree. i think even a better word would be very immature. he can dish it out but he can't handle it. and for those who will say that Gundy insulted his manhood, shaq called Bosch "RuPaul" not so long ago. calling a man a transvestite is a huge disrespect IMO.

Jermaine O'Neal to Miami Trade Revisited....

I don't see how this is a good trade for either team. Both O'Neal and Marion have been career underachievers.

A month ago, I posted my above thoughts on the Jermaine O'Neal for Shawn Marion trade and got ridiculed for it. I basically said no one would benefit from the trade and it was basically a wash. Most everyone else thought the Heat were getting the better end of the deal. Let's revisit the trade a month later...

For the third time in eight games, O'Neal was only able to grab 2 or fewer rebounds in the game. He's averaging only 5 rebounds a game since coming to Miami. Surely the Heat expect more from a guy who is 6'11".

The player he was traded for, Shawn Marion (6'7"), now a Toronto Raptor is averaging 9 rebounds a game with his new team.

This is probably not exactly what the Heat thought they were getting when they traded for O’Neal. However, I for one am not surprised.

You didn't get ridiculed.....you gave your opinion and others gave theirs. It seems that when others have a DIFFERENT OPINION than yours, you take it as some kind of personal attack for some reason.:confused:

SINCE the O'Neal trade, Udonis Haslem has been able to GO BACK to his natural position of power foward...he was playing OUT OF PLACE at center. Michael Beasely has played MORE minutes at BOTH the power forward AND small forward AND has been more productive. AND the offensive and defensive rotation of the team is easier for Coach Spoelstra with a more natural center. They ALSO picked up another small foward that is MORE to their liking and less issues with salary cap space.

Please tell me WHAT new player for ANY team sport OTHER than baseball comes in without any practices whats so ever with his new team, and picks up the offense and defense and immediately contributes UNLESS the new player is THE MAIN FOCUS of the team...? You have to look trades for OTHER REASON other than just scoring/rebound/assists and even salary cap issues.

And I say once again, not everything is black and white...

I can understand if a new player takes time to adjust to the new offensive scheme and doesn't score as many points. This is why I excluded any offensive statistics, even though those numbers are down too.

Instead, I focused on the glaring problem he's having underneath the basket. It shouldn't take a long adjustment period for a 6'11" guy to figure out how to help his team on the boards. "Boxing-Out" is a technique taught in youth league basketball. 2 rebounds a night is absolutely ridiculous for an NBA Center!

AGAIN, do not concentrate on his stats and what has transpired with moving Marion...

As you say, numbers do not lie...but they also do not tell everything...

Miami, 5-4

Toronto, 2-5

You can't judge the trade based on record alone! It's obvious the Raptors are a worse team than the Heat with or without either one of these guys. This tells me nothing. Besides, the Raptors losses came by the hands of Cleveland, Phoenix, Houston and Dallas. All superior teams.

But like I said, there is one glaring part of Jermaine O'Neal's game that is lacking since the trade. I simply pointed it out as I found it quite interesting.

Unless it involves AI?
