NBA 2008-09 Season

This was the FIRST game of the season the Cavs actually looked lackadaisical. Even in their 4 losses (Boston, Detroit, New Orleans and Atlanta), they played well enough to win. Last night was a different story. That was too close for comfort.

As I've said in the past, the Wiz and Cavs hate each other. Every game between these two franchises are always hard fought. I'll take the win no matter how ugly.

WTH does that mean? If you played well enough to win, shouldn't you have won? Maybe you mean they "played well enough to lose", see as that was the outcome.

LOL! Oh leave him alone Paul.....they have not had much to cheer about in Cleveland and the Cavs are having a great year so far. Truth be told, too early in the season to get either too excited or too depressed. There is A TON of season left and MORE than enough could happen to turn almost 90% of the teams season around.

Look at the Celtics, they were beating EVERYBODY....a little West coast swing, and suddenly, they look....human. The ONLY thing I really care about is health....period! ONE bad sprain here, one bad elbo there....and somebody is in deep trouble. Just get me through 10 gme stretches with no major injuries, and my team will be ok.

I meant that in all 4 of our losses, we were leading by a significant margin at one point in the game, but ended up losing in the end. We played well enough to win all of those games but lost. (Not taking anything away from the teams that beat us either. Just trying to describe the way we've played the entire season compared to the game on X-mas).

In the latest victory over the Wizards, we didn't play up to our potential through the entire game and for the first time of the year, I thought we were going to lose.

Your absolutely right and I assure you that any Cleveland fan can attest to this unfortunate luck.

I apologize if you're sick of my gloating, but as you say, "there's not much to cheer about in Cleveland these days". :) Right now I'm just enjoying my team during this impressive regular season run. I continue to hold my reservations and I'm trying not to get too emotionally involved as I've been the victim of a many past sports disappointments throughout my lifetime.

You go ahead and enjoy Matt. We have won our share in Detroit lately, and I'll admit it sure is fun. Being a Lions fan, I can certainly understand the frustration of losing. But believe it or not, what happened with the Tigers last season was harder to take than the Lions. At least with the Lions I was expecting it. Well not 0-16, but I'm getting a front row seat to watch history, in front of my TV.

Come on HDD.....I am only give crap about the gloating/homer thing. Truth be told, because of all the bad luck Cleveland has had, if I were in the same spot, I might be doing the exact thing myself. No worries dude..!:up;)

Cavs 93, Heat 86.

Standing from the mountaintops, screaming with joy!!! Yippeeee! :D

Cavs extend their home record to 16 straight and still remain undefeated at the Q.

Last night's Cavs/Heat game was a great one. It had playoff intensity in every regard. Watching D-Wade and LeBron battle was a real treat.

What makes this Cavs team especially enjoyable to watch this season is their unbridled enthusiasm for each other and the game. After Anderson Varejao tipped a ball in for the final basket to seal the victory last night, LeBron and Andy sprinted toward each other at half court and embraced in the thrill of another victory. It's great seeing these guys having so much fun.

Both teams will have to refocus real quick as they turn around and play each other again, this time in Miami on Tuesday. BTW, December 30th holds a real significance to one individual. Tuesday is LeBron's 24th B-day........

It was a great game, they were NOT gonna blow out....!;) The Heat still have some center issues that need to be resolved before they are seriously considered a playoff team. I will be there and look for the Heat to RETURN the favor. :D

We need to rename this thread to "Lebron James 2008".

LOL! :D

All other NBA fans are welcome to discuss their teams, unfortunately the only voices heard on here are from Cavs, Pistons and Celtics fans.

BTW, I'm going to start a weekly post titled "NBA Week in Review". This will be in similar style to my weekly NFL Monday Morning QB Thoughts. It will include thoughts about teams/players league wide. When I gather my thoughts I will post it here. Check back later.......

I'll admit that there isn't much to say about the Pistons right now. 3 game winning streak right now, but big deal. I can't get too excited about this until the "real" season starts in May.

Can't wait to hear someone else besides me make fun of the Wizards and Thunder.

Looking at Cleveland's home schedule, their toughest task will be Boston on January 9.

Their next games at home are against Chicago, who STINKS on the road, and Charlotte, who flat-out SUCK.

NBA Week In Review: HD MM Style

1. A team that is flying under the radar and getting little recognition is the Orlando Magic. Since starting 0-2, the Magic are 24-4. They were the 3rd seed in the East last year and are giving up 6 fewer points this year. Much of this has to do with Dwight Howard developing into a dominating defender. Jameer Nelson seems to be coming into his own at the Point. Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu (both 6'10") have a second talent in 3-point shooting. Their only weakness is that the Magic tend to rely too heavily on the outside shot at times. They'll have to develop a more flexible offensive plan if they want success in the playoffs.

2. 11 Technical fouls for
Detroit's Rasheed Wallace already. If he reaches 16, it would mean an automatic suspension.

3. LeBron was asked about the Celtics the other night by a reporter. LeBron proceeded to rattle off the Celtics scheduled opponents between now and Jan. 9th when the teams meet again at the Q. Well, somebody's been paying attention to the team in front of them. Can you say "statement game"??

4. The Celtics actually looked mortal this week in losing 2 straight games. They proceeded to redeem themselves by annihilating the Kings 108-63 last night!!!

5. The Nuggets are now 19-8 with Billups. The Pistons are 13-11 with "The Answer". I know it's a tired comparison, but someone had to update you between the two.

6. Another team I am impressed with are the Miami Heat. They have a great young nucleus around D.Wade including Mario Chalmers, Michael Beasley, Daequon Cook and Udonis Haslem. The only player that just doesn't seem to fit is Shawn Marion. Watching a Heat game the other night, he just looked out of place and without any roll on the team. In a few years this team will be scary though. The Heat are one true center away from being considered legit.

7. Not a lot of joy in Washington these days. The team is gawd-awful at 4-21, they’re the worst squad in the Easter Conference and something needs to change. So, DeShawn Stevenson is stepping up....
Stevenson, who’s shooting a ghastly 31.7% from the field, asked his coach to bring him off the bench. (From the Washington Post). Uh, yeah. This is the guy who called LeBron overrated?! What an idiot!

8. I just looked at the Oklahoma City Thunder's starting lineup: Russel Westbrook, Damien Wilkens, Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Johan Petro! Besides Durant, has anyone seriously heard of any of these guys?!

9. Interesting tidbit. Boston, Cleveland and the Lakers are the top 3 for attendance on the road. Detroit, Chicago and Portland are the top 3 in attendance at home.

10. Unless you count Eddy Curry and Stephon Marbury, neither of whom has played a single, solitary second this season, there are no New York Knicks on the All-Star ballot. This team remains a joke.

11. When will Mike D'Antoni realize that he doesn't have the shooters he did in Phoenix and will he ever learn to teach the game of defense? The Knicks take more shots than any other team in the league. They play like Middle School children. Their entire game plan consists of jacking up as many shots as possible in hopes of outscoring their opponents without exerting a lick of effort on the other end. Poor Spike Lee. I feel bad that he's subjected to such awful basketball night in and night out.

How they nearly stole one in Cleveland on Christmas night is beyond me. They are a threat to lose 70! Agent Zero should have gone somewhere else.

Yes. Jeff Green was the Big East Player of the Year in 2006-07, and Westbrook was a major contributor in UCLA's run of three straight Final Fours.

This may be the worst NBA team since the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets lost 71 games.
