Nascar 2018

Like always...the "real" season starts next week. Be interesting to see how the rules play out with the intermediate cars.
Off to Atlanta ?

Thats not a whole lot different ....
1.5 mile vs 2 mile

I was thinking that they use restrictor plates there, but wiki says otherwise.

Daytona and Talladega are the plate races. It wouldn't surprise me to see Atlanta become a plate race as speeds have creeped up there. If the banking was much higher they probably would. I haven't watched much the last few years, but Atlanta has been one of my favorites to watch

FYI...The race[Atlanta] if you have not heard has been moved up a hour, if you are DVRing the race plan accordingly.

Hallelujah...they need to do this EVERY week! I get so tired of these 2:00 and 3:00 start times for east coast races. Frickin TV network "tail wagging the dog" scheduling!

(not that I'm bitter or anything)

Now that's what I call a FINE weekend of racing! :D :D :D :D :happydance

...and shocked they got the whole race in today, given the weather. Those fans in the stands really hit the jackpot!

Almirola and Menard both seem to be fitting in well with their new rides. A 10th, an 11th and a 13th and half a lap away from winning the Daytona 500 for Almirola. Really puts into perspective the last 5 years wasted for car #10 at SHR..

Agreed. I think everyone knew she was holding back the 10 compared to the 4, 14, & 41, but still didn't expect Almirola to take off as strong as he has. Kinda the opposite with the 21 car. I figured they'd have a steep drop-off from Blaney to Menard, but Menard is holding his own so far. Of course, it appears whatever NASCAR did with the new front splitter rules is favoring the Fords (and brought Truex and the Toyotas back down to earth), so that is probably part of what is propping up the 10, 21, and the rest of the Fords so far.

They lost me when they went to staged racing. Now, instead of just going nuts to win the race at the end they're going nuts to win every stage. The result? Only ten cars out of forty left on the lead lap at the end of the Daytona race. That's not racing. Blah, I'm done. :thubdown

I agree the rules changes have made the cars ridiculously unstable and that needs to be addressed but there are other changes that need to be done.

A: Get rid of stages
B: Reduce the field to 30 cars
C: Any car gets down 2 or more laps gets black flagged and is done
D: No more free pass

Think about how dumb the free pass is. You're at a baseball game and your team is up by one run. The other team has a guy on 3rd when a thunderstorm breaks out so the game is delayed. When they resume the game the guy on 3rd is given a free pass and allowed to cross home plate. Sounds dumb doesn't it? Well, being rewarded for being the fastest of the slow cars is dumb.

Between the field already being down to 37 cars on what seems to be a regular basis now and the Burger King guys going bankrupt, that 30 mark may not be too far off.

Stewart-Hass Racing – 4
Team Penske/Wood Brothers – 4
Roush Fenway Racing – 2
Hendrick Motorsports – 4
Richard Childress Racing – 2
Chip Ganassi Racing – 2
Joe Gibbs Racing/ Furniture Row Racing – 5

23 Drivers are in premier rides and have a legitimate chance of winning every week. I say that wish extreme caution since do I think Daniel Suarez or Paul Menard are going to light it up? Do I think Trevor Bayne is ever going to follow up his Daytona 500 victory from 7 years ago? Are the rookies at HMS going to make waves right off the bat? No, I don’t think any of that, but they all of a better chance at winning than Jeffery Earnhardt, Michael McDowell or Joey Gase.

Take that 23 and add in the small low budget teams of Front Row Motorsports, Go Fas Racing, JTG Daugherty Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, Germain Racing and Leavine Family Racing and you got 31 cars.
