NASCAR 2016 season

So, I've been keeping track of this stuff since the beginning of 2013 with the introduction of the Gen 6 car.

There have been a total of 111 Sprint Cup points races run from the 2013 Daytona 500 to last week.

111 races, that produced a grand total of just 21 different winners from 12 different teams.
8 out of the 21 winners over the past 3 seasons have only won 1 race, 4 of the 12 teams have only won 1 race

JGR is the only Toyota team to be significant in this time frame. All Toyota wins in 2014 and 2015 came from JGR.
HMS is the most successful Chevy Team in this time frame
Penske is the only Ford team to do anything in this time frame. All Ford wins in 2015 came from Penske.

So is it any surprise a JGR car, a HMS car and a Penske car make up the first three wins of 2016?

Outside of Daytona and 'Dega, realistically there are only about 10 drivers with a shot to win every week. Even with the four restrictor plate races, there's not much variation in winning recently. Ragan at Talladega in 2013, and previously at the Summer Daytona race in 2012 and Bayne in the 500 the same year and Almirola had the rain shortened Daytona race. Looking at the numbers, what incentive is there for some of the 3rd rate teams when they know they have no chance. Maybe that's why there's only been 39 entries lately. I am really surprised Team Burger King, Front Row and HScott are able to support 2 cars each, with BK and Front Row having 3 in the past

Is the numbers on this graph correct, the number nect to the driver is the number of wins since 2013 ?
Dale Jr has 7 wins since '13 ?

I would have had NO IDEA he'd won that many times and I'm a fan of his. :)

dang...I know the Wood Brothers had a part time team for a few years but this is still impressive

Wood Brothers crew member misses first race in 26 years: You don't hear many stories like this in any sport, but this past weekend in Phoenix Wood Brothers Racing crew member Andretti Smith missed his first race since October 1990. The veteran pit crew member spent his first 24 years in the sport going over the wall with the Wood Brothers, doing everything from carrying to changing tires and finished up gassing his last eight years. When the Wood Brothers aligned with Team Penske two years ago, Smith started handing in the second gas can from behind the wall. "I did everything over the wall," Smith said. "I carried from 1990 to '92, jacked from '92-94, changed from '95-05, and then gassed from '06-'14." It was the behind the wall help that sidelined Smith following the Las Vegas race earlier this season. "I tore my biceps at the top of the shoulder and 50% at the elbow. It happened handing in the second can during the Vegas race." Smith hopes to be back at the track as early as Martinsville, depending on how his recovery goes

Vickers in the 14 (Ty Dillon was in it last week)

Vickers in the #14 at Auto Club Speedway: Stewart-Haas Racing has named Brian Vickers interim driver of its #14 Chevrolet SS for the March 20 Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway. In honor of Blood Clot Awareness Month (March), Janssen is partnering with Vickers and the track for the third consecutive year to help raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of blood clots. Vickers will drive the #14 Janssen Arnie's Army Charitable Foundation Chevy in the 400-mile race that marks the fifth event of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. The car's paint scheme is in support of Vickers' friend and Janssen's partner, legendary golfer Arnold Palmer. Arnie's Army Charitable Foundation has been entrusted to continue Arnold Palmer's legacy of philanthropy and invests in organizations that help children, youth, families, the environment and our communities. Janssen will also sponsor the TreatMyClot.com 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race March 19 at Auto Club Speedway. Vickers and Palmer have partnered with Janssen to chronicle their personal experiences with blood clots which fans can view on www.TreatMyClot.com. Plans for an interim driver beyond Fontana have not been finalized.

Earnhardt Jr. to donate brain for concussion research:

Following in the footsteps of many NFL players and extreme sports athletes, Dale Earnhardt Jr. said Saturday [via Twitter] he plans to donate his brain for concussion research. It's a major announcement, because Earnhardt is NASCAR's most popular driver - and has been the past 13 years. Earnhardt, 41, like many veteran NASCAR drivers, is no stranger to hard crashes and head injuries similar to what football players endured before being diagnosed with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) post-mortem.(Sporting News), Earnhardt missed two races in October 2012, at Charlotte and Kansas after being diagnosed with a concussion following the Oct. 7, 2012 race at Talladega.(3-27-2016)

Hopefully he donates in about 50 years ....
By then they will be on to something else.
There are a bunch of drivers that have had concussions I am sure it happens quite often, however, NASCAR appearantly doesn't check for that as I've never see someone come out of the Nascar Medical Center and state that they have a concussion.
You gotta believe it happens on most major accidents.
Wonder how long it will be before they start looking for them and holding people out of races.
