The installer told me receiver DONOT need to connect to phone line unless I want to order pay-per-view. I asked him about the $5 monthly charge, he said I don't have to pay. Well, imagine the surprise I got 3 months later.

Maybe you should have read the agreement you signed when he did the install.

a freind of mine got a letter from Dish stating their 2nd DVR hasn't been connected to a phone line since the install 6 months ago, and they were going to back-bill them the $5.00/month.

The installer ran a new phone line and it has been unplugged once in 6 months to move the line. Could the unplug cause Dish to think it's been not connected all this time?

You do not need the phone line, however on newer receivers, Dish in their infinite wisdom to eek out every $ has chosen to charge you $5 per receiver that is not hooked up.

You can have the charge removed, however, prepare for your frustration level to be increase slightly with you initially call to customer service.

The first line service rep cannot remove the charge, it will have to be escalated to an "account specialist". Our AS promptly removed the charge for both our 622's, but we have to go through the process again in a year.

The frustrating part is convincing (or politely yet firmly educating) the first line CS rep you don't need to have a line hooked up to your receiver (in our case I don't even have a land line).

Those installers are a bunch of useless people. Either they make an excuse or give you the wrong information not doing the work.

If so, why work for Dish Network?? They should work for the garbage company.

right......:no

But the line was unplugged for all of 1 minute in the past 6 months.
Well i just called for the very same reason. Dishcomm wasnt working in my case, silly me didnt set it up right.

When i asked about the details, I was told that the reason was the last time it had dialed in was months ago. hence the letter.
So i would say, based on what i was told, the answer is no, 1 minute offline should not have this effect.

Go to system menu , 6, 3 test connection it wil update with stats if it needs to and update the no-phone counter.

Well then, since you seem to have all the answers you can set up your own damn dish, and tell us how it goes. Since you think installers are idiots.
Well maybe not all installers. But mine had a colorfull Pipe in his tool pouch.I doubt it was for smoking,I mean really!! But I can't complain about his Install, even if he did leave his step ladder in the middle of the road. But don't worry he came and got it 2 days later.;)

No offense ( well some actually ) but I spent to much time fixing work done by know it all customers who labeled themselves experts just because they had run a cable line across the basement to a tv in the corner by the treadmill that they never used. Sure there are some bad installers out there and I spent my time fixing their work but some of the worst was stuff done by customers who either thought they knew more than the installer or who allowed things to happen to their system.

E* told me as long as I have my 622 hooked to a phone line .I wouldn't be charged. They didn't say anything about PPV. Directv has that rule.

You can't order ppv with the remote if no phone line is connected. You will get an error message saying a phone line needs to be connected. You can order online with no phone line though.

AT100+ and Dish HD

Should I buy a 1000.2?
