MLB 2011 Season

The Sox need to go 18-11 the rest of the way to finish with the coveted 100 wins....

I hate to have to say this, but the Red Sox chances of going 18-11 down the stretch will be best served by letting Wakefield start just one more time, when they have a double header. Bedard and Miller are both throwing well, and the Red Sox have three scheduled offdays remaining, so while they like to pamper Beckett and Lester, letting them pitch on five days rest, if they keep Wakefield in a six man rotation, Beckett and Lester will wind up pitching a few times on seven days rest.

To me this is the key. The Sox are in the playoffs regardless, so they might as well let their two aces get as much rest as possible. Keep Wakefield in the rotation, let him get his much deserved 200th win, and line up the rotation for October.

Who knows? Maybe Wake can go on one of his patented hot streaks.

How would you rank the division and wild cars leaders in terms of most likely to win the whole thing?

1. Philadelphia
..
..
2. Boston
3. NY Yankees
4. Texas
..
5. Milwaukee
6. Detroit
7. Atlanta

8. Arizona

If San Francisco beats out Arizona they move up to the 2-4 group.

For some reason.... I really like Milwaukee.

Really? With the worst offense in all of baseball. In the playoffs they have to face the best pitching staffs.

Remember, last year they way overachieved offensively. What you are seeing from them this year is actually typical of the current players.

I've been saying that all along. He is the best offensive player in the NL this year, period, power, average, and speed. It is not his fault the rest of the team sucks.

And, Kershaw should get the Cy Young.

Are the other 8 position players and other 4 pitchers that bad, or are they just having bad years?

How does the GM not surround these guys with decent players?

Kershaw has a better chance to win the Cy than Kemp has of winning the MVP, see Zack Greinke.

Prince Feilder's stats are with in range of Kemp's and his team is going to win it's division, he will win the MVP.

The only thing Fielder is on par with Kemp in is power. His average is much lower and he does not possess the same speed. Kemp is up there in all offensive categories, while Fielder is just in 2. Plus Fielder plays in a much more offensively friendly park and has more opportunities to drive in runs.

As for the Dodgers, I think most of their problem is the ownership situation and injuries. This is pretty much the same team that won the division the last couple of years prior to last year. On paper they are just as good as any other team in the division. Many players are underachieving (Ethier and Billingsley are just two examples), and the ownership is not in a situation to get that one or two key players that will help them compete.

Good to see Lackey's rounding into post-season form. His 4 earned runs on seven hits and four walks in seven innings substantially lowered his season's earned run average.

Meanwhile, when does Reddick turn back into a pumpkin? He's hitting .362 and slugging .628 in 94 at-bats. This guy is not a phenom. He hit .230 in Triple A this year and .266 there last year. Players typically hit 30 points LOWER in the majors than they did in Triple A. I'd love to see him keep it up, but if he plays every day, he'll finish the season closer to .280, which is still a big improvement over Nancy Drew.

Reddick entered tonight's game hitting .281 and now, after going 0 for 2, he's down to .278 and misplayed a ball along the tricky right field fence that Drew ordinarily plays routinely. I can't believe I'm rooting for Drew to get back.

Don't hold your breath Mike. From Nick Cafardo on Twitter:

JD Drew hurt his middle finger in rehab game last night after going 3 for 3. Will miss a few more days.
