MLB 2010 Season

Because of their deals with the legal scalpers I say they will. Time will tell.

Go on the Sox web site and try and see what kind of tickets (if any) are available for any games. As DK said, the games are almost already sold out, with those scalpers getting first shot after the season-ticket holders. Just because some seats may be empty doesn't mean they weren't sold... :eureka
Ace Tickets is one of the resellers for Red Sox tickets. I think the story is really talking about the effects of the economy. Nothing has changed in the last few years with how the Red Sox sell tickets, as far as I know. And in the past they sold all tickets , even the resellers did. Don't other teams do the same thing or something like it? Don't the Yankees sell really good seats at high prices to Companies and then the Company gives them to an employee to go ? Corporate seat etc?

So when the Red Sox have bragged over the years of consecutive sell out games that could say that even if the resellers don't sell all of the tickets ? I don't believe I've seen empty seats at Fenway games in the past. I've seen a packed house in the last 7 to 8 years , no matter who sold the tickets , reseller or no reseller. It would be interesting if those seats don't sell and the Red Sox say it's a sellout anyway because they sold them to ACE or another reseller. But, In the past I've seen sellouts and the place was packed. Again, The story is really about how people would pay a premium price to see the Red Sox and because of the economy they might not do it this year.

Sold but if they don't sell the tickets so people fill the seats how can they say it's a sellout?
Because the seats were already sold and the Sox got the money for them. Even if the third party retailer fails to sell them, you cannot go up to a ticket window and ask for those particular seats. They will tell you that those seats are already taken.

The same is true if you bought tickets for yourself and ended up not going. The seats you bought are technically already sold.

When MLB determines attendance they do so by PAID attendance (tickets sold).

Don't worry, there won't be 6,000 empty seats for opening night. The prices will drop as the game draws closer.

I did this last summer at Fenway. Minutes before gametime I bought tickets from a scalper for just under face value. Comparable seats were going for $300-$400 each online just a few days earlier....

If the RE Seller bought the tickets and could not sell them, thats thier problem, the Red Sox still SOLD the tickets.
I highly doubt that the Sox GIVE the resellers the tickets.

fwiw, 6,000 tickets is NOT that many , often they will be bought up by local businesses and given away to organizations.

Sad to see Nathan go down .... I think we all expected this to be the case when they mentioned he was going to play catch and see how it felt. Playing catch is nothing like pitching......

Hopefully he'll be back ready to go next year.

Great news for Twins fans that Mauer signed :up

Also great news for all of baseball, this way we don't have to deal with the greedy hands of the yankees getting in there to outpay the player that really does want and need to be where he is.

Tired of the yankees buying an all star team ever year.

Baseball REALLY needs to have a salary cap, a REAL one, not one that teams can just ignore and pay a little extra for the right to ignore it.

Couldn't agree more. Not just for my Twins, but for all of baseball.

Tim Wakefield beat the Marlins today, to improve his pre-season recoord to 3-1.

Has Wakefield ever pitched on Opening Day? I think he deserves the honor. I know he's never going to have his number retired because the Red Sox are stingier with that honor than any other team, but Wakefield has been the heart and soul of the Red Sox for about a decade and a half now, and I'd really like to see him open the season for them.

In a big game, you never want a knuckleballer pitching for you, and you never want one pitching against you.

You're absolutely right! :up

I admit that, at times, I've been aggravated with the Wakefield needs a caddy thing (his own personal catcher and such), but the guy has proven time and time again to be the consummate professional!

On a team that staff includes Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and John Lackey, I doubt we'd ever see Wake draw the Opening Day plum. But I certainly wouldn't protest if they gave him that honor............sort of a lifetime acheivment award.

I only hope I'm present at Fenway when Tim pitches his last game.......I'd personally like to show him my gratitude as a fan!

Speaking of the BoSox- Bill, what do you think of their chances this season?

Personally, I think they could have another strong season- getting Lackey was a genius move, and Beltre is the type player I just feel is capable of a solid year after five years in not-so-hitter-friendly SafeCo. If he can stay healthy, Fenway could be the tonic he needs to revive his bat.

The Red Sox starting rotation and defense is VERY strong.

However, I am concerned abour the lineup and even the bullpen a little (Saito and Billy Wagner will be missed, and teams may have figured out Okajima's funky delivery).

I see them as a playoff team......................how far they go is another thing

Only 8 days till real baseball. I can't wait.

How is John Lester looking Bill? I drafted him as my #2 in Fantasy....

Bill, with their hitting their is a small chance the Red Sox won't make the playoffs. But if/when they do make the playoffs, their pitching will dominate.

I'm counting down the days until the season opener. I can't wait....I love this time of year. The disappointments of last season are a distant memory. :)
