Miguel Cabrera faces DUI charge

Apparently he has, although some reports say she got in a couple shots of her own too.

I've you've been reading this thread, you would have seen that I have been saying all along that the man needs help. Some others have claimed that there isn't an underlying problem to try and fix....

I THINK, the deal with his wife was from the previous ordeal, I haven't heard anything about his wife during the current situation.

My response was to Salsa's post that no one has been hurt yet, referring to the multiple alcohol abuse incidents he has had over the years....

Interesting how, seeing your all saying that he's been a drunk for a long time now that none of it made NATIONAL news till he got here .... before he came to Detroit, we knew he was a bit ( maybe quite a bit) overweight and a very good player...

Rumor down here was he has had that problem for a while and the Marlins SUPPOSEDLY tried to help him. But it was not really reported that they did help him so it is hard to tell what the truth really is.

So some here want to throw him in rehab and forget about him, like a 24/7 thing, thats not the way rehab goes for everyone .... sure you have your group that need that, and thats the ones everyone hears about ....

So, throw him in rehab and let him out for recess between 7 and 11 pm each night, with weekends being flexible !

I would hope that he gets help and sticks with it. Looks like he is going to have a companion with him like Josh Hamilton has. From reading some of the articles locally there seems to be two sides to Cabrera, with during the times he is having problems with Alcohol he gets very, very angry hopefully he gets the help and works on what ever plan professionals are going to give him to work on his issues so nothing more serious happens to him or others down the road.

I'm not a health-care professional so I can't comment on what he needs, but all I know from what I've read about recent high profile substance abusers, plus a couple people I'm personally aware of, is that part-time rehab doesn't work.

If it's determined by the professionals that he needs a full-time rehab stay, don't you think he should do it?? The organization has a lot of money invested in him and should be thinking about long-term goals and not just a quick fix. (Pardon the pun.)

Absolutely, I never said otherwise, however your making it sound like Full Time Rehab is the only option and no one has even heard from the Doctors in the know as to what type of treatment he needs.

Your putting him in the Lindsy Lohan group without knowing any of the details.

I've got a buddy that can drink beer all night and be perfectly functional, but you give him a shot (s) and he get beligerent and nasty....
Therefore, he'll tell you right up front, Beer, no shots...

Alcoholism IS a sickness. Nice to know you have compassion for fellow man. He has not hurt anyone with his drunkness yet....so let's hope he gets help he needs.

It's a self induced sickness, I have no compassion for that.

Maybe he should worry about deportation.

Any other Immigrant Worker in this country would be facing a fairly stiff penalty for Drunk Driving, and if guilty, would be looking at an expedited route back to their Home Country. As good a baseball player as this guy is, he does not deserve any special rights here. As a mater of fact, he has already had some breaks, and shame on the Police for not charging him with Domestic Abuse in the previous incident.

My wife worked with a very nice man from Japan, who was arrested for a DUI, after he was found guilty he was deported back to Japan and told he could not re-apply for entry for a minimum of 7 years.

You know as well as I do that MOST Professional Athletes get different treatment than us every day citizens and you also know that Cabrera is NOT the first athlete to go down this road.

Some times, those "self induced sicknesses" are made when you do not have someone to show you it is not an escape or when too young to know better. But some of us ain't as lucky as other right?

Sorry, but that "very nice man" is not an important cog to a 100 million dollar corporation that is the Detroit Tigers.

Here's an interesting perspective ....

Maybe it's now time for deputies to apologize to Cabrera?

No doubt, if all the reports are accurate, Miguel Cabrera has some serious demons. Ones that need to be addressed with some serious help.

But to me, the most troubling aspect of that otherwise incredibly boring police video released to the world Wednesday was the flippant attitude of the arresting deputies -- one of whom sounded like he was wishing he could've dusted off his Taser, and another bragging about the arrest of such a high-profile figure.

"I can't beat the KC and the Sunshine Band," the deputy is heard saying, "but this beats it now.

How ridiculously unprofessional is that?

Cabrera apologized at length days after his arrest -- to his teammates, fans, family, as well as to deputies. Well, the deputies owe one, now, having treated the arrest as if they'd just hit the Mega Millions jackpot.

Cops are paid to protect you and I -- not act like star-struck teen-agers. And I say that not with a bias against cops, but rather as the proud son of a retired Michigan State Police trooper (one who, in a brief chat early today, told me he was equally disturbed by these deputies' behavior).

Cabrera's defense attorneys have to be doing cartwheels over such comments, though -- because a lack of professionalism by authority figures surely can raise serious questions of character, should the case ever reach the trial level. Just remember Mark Furman and O.J.

Thank you, that's exactly my point!! Those headline rehabbers like Lohan and Sheen are perfect examples why part-time or self-imposed rehab doesn't work.

He is a public person with multiple offenses, why shouldn't he be put in that group??

And that (attitude) there is the the reason that these spoiled brat athletes think that they are entitled and untouchable.

He is a public person with multiple offenses, why shouldn't he be put in that group??

Isn't it obvious? He's a pro baseball player and no one ever taught him is wasn't okay to drink yourself in to a stupor.

Because he's had issues TWICE, not WEEKLY ...
