I don't know what this means, but I thought I'd throw it out in case anyone else encounters it.
Recap: I have a Satwork 3618 and had been having trouble getting WVGN on AMC4. I manually entered a channel with WVGN's numbers, then was happily surprised to find it available a couple of weeks later. It was barely watchable, so I tweaked the dish for a small improvement.
Last night, I experimented with the transponder frequency setting on the channel. WVGN's listed at 11991, but I'd known my Satwork to be off by one or two on some other listings. After I plugged in each number, I waited until the quality reading settled down. Here's what I found:
11986: 0% quality on my Satwork
11987: 35%
11988: 35%
11989: 35%
11990: 34%
11991: 34%
11992: 35%
11993: 35%
11994: 35%
11995: 35%
11996: 0%
Although the acceptable frequency range was centered on 11991, that particular number gives me slightly worse quality than most of the other points in the range.
I changed my channel setting to from 11991 to 11992 and watched some Leno. WVGN still broke up at times, but to my eyes, it was noticeably improved.
Again, I don't know why this happened, but it suggests that adjusting frequencies may be a way to improve some channels on a Satwork.
(Note: I haven't tried this on any of the blind-scanned channels, which often come in with frequencies just a little different than those posted. I presume and hope that the blind scan process automatically chooses the frequency with the best quality.)
