Will be getting a new 42" LCD in a few days. We will primarily watch OTA which I plan to feed to the set directly from antenna. However, when occasions arise, I would like to be able to connect to my 622 to mirror our TV1 (just don't want to pull the trigger for another 622/722 because we would not get the real advantage from it due to limited viewing on this set). Distance from 622 to new set is 50'. Ideally, so as not to disturb my audio/video hook-up via HDMI on TV1, I would like to use 5 connector component...a three foot cable from the 622 with a coupler and then a 50' stashed under the couch next to TV2 that I would just roll out when needed. No home theater in this room, just running stereo out to a receiver. So question is, will component handle the length?

I have a 46 foot run. Works fine

I have similar consideration. My TV2 is upstairs in the bedroom (right above my living room where the receiver and TV1 are). I want to run composite RCA (1 Video, 2 audio) through the wall. Should I get a direct go-through with one set of cables or should I make some fancy looking connection on the walls? How would that affect the signal if I do the 2nd approach?

im using a 90 foot component cable from monoprice to do just this...no problems here at all. You can safely get much further distance from a component cable than from a digital hdmi cable. good luck.

I did a service call on the enviromental building in down town Phoenix. It is a 28 floor building, dish was mounted on the roof I am assuming I didn't need to see the dish. The 622 Receiver was in a storage room on the 27th floor along with 20 QUAM receivers. The 622 had 3 component connectors connected to 3 quad shield cables that were ran back to the 3rd floor. The sound was going into a massive sound system so I have no idea how they got that pumped in. Yes the HD picture was nice, Very nice. So YES it will work.

PS: The trouble call was just to change the TV from video1 to component 1 (thank Gosh)

Did you re-install the entire system as Dish expects you to do? :D

so I'm jumping in late here, but am I reading that my TV1 is connected via HDMI cable for HD and I can run component cables to TV2 for HD on that TV too? If so then way cool.

Fellas,

My buddy bought a 26" LCD for his bedroom and tried a 50' HDMI cable with marginal sucess. He bought an extender from monoprice but it totally killed the signal. I think there is something wrong with the cable, though. I'll update the post when he gets an update. He didn't want to keep the 622 in his bedroom and run 50' of component and audio, by the way.

Not all HDMI cables are equal. Monster cable rates their HDMI cables according to their throughput. They have cables rated up to 10.2GBPS. The regular HDMI cables out there aren't very high in throughput at all. In fact, many of them have severely crappy waveforms with just a 2 meter long cable pushing 2.23GBPS. If you want to run a long length, buy a Monster Cable 1000 series cable. It's gonna cost you though.

Longer runs are better and cheaper with component (5 connector) though not as convenient.

Sure can. I ran HDMI to the 2nd TV and used component at the primary TV (where my Dish receiver is). Didn't wanna run 5 cables for component with audio. Have HD on both when in single mode.

BTW, I'm using a total of about 30' of monoprice.com HDMI cable and it works fine. 20' of cable (m to m) to a wall plate then a 10' extender cable (f to m) to the TV. Works great. I did purchase a heavier cable (24 AWG?), was something like $30 total. I woulda probably had to mortgage the house to get the same length of Super Duper Monster Cable.

Monster is overpriced and won't offer any advantage.

Thanks Old Corps
does single mode mean TV1 and TV2 both watch same thing? Can you toggle between single and dual from TV2 location?

I think you can only toggle between single mode and dual mode using the button on the front of the receiver itself.

Oh and I've seen 100' HDMI cables in operation. Not monster cables. Actually they were purchased from monoprice. I've also seen both component and HDMI over ethernet on some really long runs and they looked like they were working great. Although over ethernet used an adapter on each end at about $80 a pop each.

I have a few 50 ft component runs....i am seeing rolling angular line, especially in red colors.

What can cause that?

It used to be fine and slowly has gotten worse...

Any ideas?
