Manny's Gone

WOW!! Here is the shocker....Manny being....RESPONSIBLE!! How's that for "Manny being Manny......"

Major League Baseball announced Thursday that Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games for violating its drug policy.

The commissioner's office didn't announce the specific violation by Ramirez, but in a statement Thursday provided by Major League Baseball, Ramirez attributed the violation to medication he had been prescribed by a doctor.

"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," Ramirez said. "Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now.

"I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons. I want to apologize to [Dodgers owner Frank] McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, [manager Joe] Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation."

After consultation with the Players' Association and his personal representatives, Ramirez waived his right to challenge the suspension. He will lose about one-third of his $25 million salary.

Ramirez's test result was first reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Wonder if anyone gonna give him props for this stance....?

Wow! So for ALL those that STILL think you can believe someone when they "look clean"...there ya go. Too bad too, because the Dodgers could be in deep trouble!

Well, that's not exactly true. If you remember, Manny was skinny in his days with Cleveland. Gradually, he started to bulk up, but disguised his body in the baggy jersey and oversized pants he wore later in his career.

When's salasa gonna start defending Manny and blaming this on a vigilante reporter? Damn the media! They're exposing all of MLB's secrets! :D

I was VERY critical of the way Manny acted in his last few months with the Red Sox, but in no way, shape or form did I want THIS to happen! :(

Manny was a HUGE part of two World Series championships here in Boston, and I just hope the integrity of those championships aren't called into question.

Very, very sad! :(

The only good thing that came out of this Manny saga, is landing Jason Bay.

In his short time with the Sox, Bay has become the new Papi with his flair for the dramatic. Plus he's a class act, and he LOVES playing in Boston! :up

I am more anti-media than most here. The media didn't get him in trouble...HE DID...AND he ADMITTED IT WAS HIS responsibility to find out what this doctor was giving him. Or did you "miss that one"? LOL!

My thoughts on this:

1. I did not see this coming

2. Talk about bad timing- this came after the Dodgers set the all-time record for best home start in baseball history

3. The way the Dodgers play over the next 50 games will prove if they have what it takes to contend. I think the calming influence of Torre will play a role in whether this team will sink or swim.

4. The last time a big-name was suspended during the season was Palmeiro in 2005. Do you think the fallout and reaction will be similar?

From what? Their division is made up of mediocre teams. And Paul is will probably turn out to be a better hitter than Ethier or Kemp

When the Dodgers got him last year, I was not too pleased. I always hated him with the Sox. He is a good hitter and a funny guy. He did help the Dodgers other players perform at their level. The Dodgers offense is still one of the best in baseball, even without Manny and their division is probably one of the weakest in baseball. That being said, I still had mixed feelings about them signing him in the first place this off season.

I'm a little tired of of the blame the doctor act. I don't see why these guys use all these supplements in the first place.

Yeah....ask how Big Pappi is doing SINCE they took Manny away from protecting him in the line-up... THEN come talk to me....
Yes, Manny made the Dodgers hitters perform better. These hitters may drop off without him in the lineup. Keep in mind, even in games in which he did not play this year, they still hit well and scored lots of runs. Even without him, they probably still have the best offense in the NL, second to only the Phils.

Ortiz's problems this season may be strictly his own. Don't forget that he's had the AL's leading top average hitter after him in the order most of this year. He's seeing a lot of good pitches, but not taking advantage of them like he used to...
