I have noticed recently I lose video on a channel but still have audio. All I have to do is change the channel and switch it back and the video returns. I check the signal and have 82% but the quality is down around 62%.

Should I just bump my dish a little bit and play with it that way?

is this on specific channels?

I've seen that happen before. Ohio News Net on SBS6 will do that to me al the time. KUIL on AMC4 has done it a few times

- I've seen that several times. It seems to happen to a TP that suddenly drops the signal below the receiver's threshold (like less than 40%) and comes back where it might lose the video, but not the audio. I guess the video part is more sensitive to this change !? I'm not sure if that is because of the weak signal from a specific channel or the unstable TPs, but I always try to peak the signal quality as best as I can to avoid the "sudden" drop.

Are there any trees in front of the dish? It could be moving with the wind partially blocking the signal and weakening that TP.

Otherwise, your dish size might be borderline. You amy want to get a bigger dish to pull more signal.

It is just happening with Hope and Esperanza on AMC4. No trees in the way. I nudged the dish around a bit last night so I will see how things go tonight.

It is a problem because much of what I watch I record while sleeping and watch later. So if I lose the video it will record without it.

weird. I havent watch Hope enough to see it but every time I flip on those channels they come in just fine

KUIL has been a bugger sometimes

You have discovered a known bug of the Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra and Pansat 2500 and also many cloned units which use the ST5518 chipset. Usually this problem occurs when the receiver is on a lower Symbol Rate transponder and a non-compliant MPEG TS stream. Often, an error in the stream will cause many ST5518 units to lose video and then not re-sync. An error "Scrambled or No Signal" could be displayed , while the audio plays on .......

62% is very low for a Ultra on the Hope Channel. I would suggest that you fine tune the dish to help raise the Quality (BER).

I, too, have had this problem with the Pansat (I have a 2700). Changing channels always solves it. I just chalked it up to a bug (which according to SatelliteAV, it is :) )

A very interesting bug for Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra!!!
Would the newer official firmware upgrade fix that ?
I still have the original version since I bought it in Sep. of 2004 (...from Sadoun)

Not a bug that can be fixed with a firmware upgrade ..... Upgrading the firmware will give your Ultra many useful functions (I.E. advanced Power Scan options), but will not correct this problem. This bug is present on every ST5518 chipset MPEG2 receiver that I am aware of.

I bumped the dish over to the west a little and it hasn't happened since. However my level is still 82% with about 60% quality.

I plan to buy a second reciever, is there one that doesn't have this bug? Perhaps the DVR?

Have you checked the LNBF rotation or checked the elevation to peak the Signal Quality? We worked with the uplink today, so you should notice a tremendous signal gain on this MUX.

Just be aware of the 5518 issue when you purchase a 2nd receiver. The Mercury II has a different processor and the DVR does not have this problem. The GEOSATpro DVR1000ci has a routine written to resync the processor if video burps.
