what determines local eligibility, billing address or phone number?
how many people change their billing address to qualify without actually moving?

The SD locals are on 110 tp 27 spot 1 and the HD locals are on 61.5 tp 7 area 2 (I think spot 12). You should be able to "see" the sat signals for Baltimore, but you will have to "move" your service address to Baltimore because you are in the Salisbury DMA and that is one of the DMA's that Dish does not serve LIL to. Look up moving for more details. I did it with the chat window. I hope this helps.

I "moved" when I first went on Dish last year. I gave them a new service address and told them my billing and phone number was the same.

I was having trouble with aquiring a signal (thanks to Ike after effects) so I had to move back before calling for service. I checked and my true locals, well just the big 3, were all now HD thru Dish so I stayed. I think they went live about 1 or 2 weeks before I was calling. My Fox I can get in HD thru OTA so I was satisfied with the other 3 in HD. Supposedly, Fox should be in HD soon. I did have to get a 2nd dish though to get them.

Wait So all i have to do is call and change service address? And i can get differnt locals? Man if thats true that would be great i could get high def locals and a whole lot of dtv programing from L.A. (Live 200 miles north of LA that is.) And i could get my locals for OTA. Then that 5.99 local charge would be worth it.

Keep in mind that whatever locals you want may be on a spot beam, and you may not be within the footprint of that spot beam. Also, if you change your service address, and need service, you will have to switch it back and dish will usually only let you change it so often.

I "moved" to cleveland before I realized that the 61.5 hd spotbeam only went as far east as Cleveland and I am 250 miles east of cleveland. The SD spot is the same one that I got my previous locals from so I get those. Make sure that you can get the proper spots before you move.

anyone have any info on what sats the baltimore locals use?

The Salisbury DMA is definitely a problem for E* & D*. "Moving" to another service address in Baltimore/Harford/Cecil county will get you the Baltimore locals. "Moving" to PG/Montgomery county will get you the Washington, DC locals. The SD locals are on 110 and the HD locals are on 61.5.

How do i find out the exact spotbeam for LA?

so i have my service setup and am reciving only sd locals

a check shows i have sats 110, 119, and 129
but not 61.5

how can i fix this? to get 61.5 and my hd locals?

is it a matter of re pointing the dish? something i can do?
or is new equipment required?

If you have a 1000.2 antenna, you need to add a 61.5 wing dish and plug it into the lnb-in port of the 1000.2. If you already have 2 antennas, a Dish 500 for 110 and 119 and another Dish 500 for 129, repoint the 129 to 61.5. Or if you have the new smartcard, install a Dish 1000.4 antenna for 72.7, 77, and 61.5. If E* has HD locals for your DMA, they usually take care of everything for you for $59 without commitment and for free with an extended commitment. You might want to wait until the eastern arc is opened to existing subscribers; maybe they'll upgrade you to the 1000.4. Otherwise, if you're "moving", you'll need to purchase the hardware and do the install yourself.

Nice to see Dish isn't hurting for money
