Local HD in future

I have been reading posts for quite some time, but am a first time poster.
I have asked Dish the following question, but can not seem to get an answer.
Hoping someone here may know.

I live near Sacramento, CA (Top 20 market), so am assuming we will be getting local HD via satellite sometime later this year. I currently use an OTA antenna and receive all the channels and their sub-channels (ie: NBC Weather Plus, PBS HD and 2 other PBS sub-channels, and another local sub-channel that carries Doppler Radar)
Will Dish be carrying all of the sub-channels, or will I have to stick with the roof antenna to receive them all? I would love to either get rid of the antenna, or know that I can unsubscribe to the Dish local option.

Thats a good question, but with bandwith at a premium, I'd guess just the networks themselves. Could be wrong, though.

The other consideration is picture quality. If I were you I would take a look at the Dish provided HD locals before taking down your OTA antenna. Everyone who has OTA is very pleased with its full-resolution pictue quality.

Not only are they NOT carrying the sub-channels, they are not carrying all the digital channels.

If all you want is ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX, then you won't need your OTA antenna (assuming Dish has carriage agreements with all those stations). If PBS, WB, UPN and independents are important to you (they are to me), then keep the OTA antenna up.

Welcome BB from a fellow Sacramentan (close). I for one am not really that interested in Local HD being carried. I know a lot of people are and that's OK, too. I have CBSHD since KOVR is now an Owned and Operated station. I really do prefer the higher PQ of the off the air signal. THe plus in Sac. is the CBS station does not have the program info, so it makes it more time consuming to record an event on 13.1.

In answer to your question, which has already been answered, is they will probably only carry 3.1 (NBC); 10.1(ABC); 13.1 (CBS), and 40.1 (FOX).

Thank you all for your input. Looks like I will be keeping the antenna and dropping the Dish Local.

For most of us, really, after the initial shock of the "old antenna" for OTA tv we get over the bewilderment with the start-up problems and prefer it. Soon most of us will work out all the fine details of getting the right antenna and finding the right direction etc for pulling in their locals. The word will spread and new users will haved little or no issues. The industry will push for this solution. It will benefit us all and LIL will become a non issue.

I live in a dense area plus a valley with mountains between me and the towers but it just took a little time to re-acquainte myself with using an OTA antenna. It's been great. We get all the variantions in all their resolutuion.

We'd all spend our time on these efforts better by helping our very rural friends convince the Congress to lift all these crazy rules/regs and let providers serve those in need with national network feeds. Rmember business likes these restrictions because they general serve to keep competition out. We loose. But if we end the politics of it all the rest would take care of itself. Consumers would win.

I'm very surprised that Las Vegas (#48) will not be getting HD locals from Dish this year. They are not even going by the top 50 just 50 they want to do
