I will soon have two houses - one which I am only at once a month or so, is it legal to have only a single dish account but put two of my receivers in one house and one in another? I have a spare DirecTV single LNB dish laying around I would try to activate with a single receiver at my other place.

I'm just wondering if this is legal - since people have them on their RVs I didn't see how this is any different.

Oh - I'm Phil by the way, I've been browsing for about a month and just finally decided to start putting in my own opinion.

Illegal? Most likely, no.
An explicit violation of DISH Network's rules? Yes.

"If you desire to receive Services at two different locations, you must open a separate account for each location. You agree that you will not directly or indirectly use a single account for the purpose of authorizing Services for multiple DISH Network receivers that are not all located in the same residence and connected to the same phone line. If we later determine that you did, we may terminate your Services and, in addition to all other applicable fees, you agree to pay us the difference between the amounts actually received by us and the full retail price for the Services authorized for each DISH Network DBS receiver on the account, whether owned by you or not. The payment of that amount and/or the termination of Services shall not prejudice our ability to exercise any other rights and remedies we may have under this Agreement, at law, in equity, or otherwise."

I've got several well to do customers who have one of their receivers in their vacation home. They informed the Dish CSRs that oen is at their vacation home on the lake. It is legal as long as no one else uses that reciver, and it is for their own exclusive use.

It would definitely be illegal, if they rented the vacation home.

we have a receiver at the lake house for 3 years now with no issues

Mike is right...if you own the property and dont rent it, there shouldnt be an issue....just dont hook it to the phone line :)

Yes you can have dish antennas installed at multiple locations and move YOUR receiver(s) around.

I have two homes and have setups in both of them. All recievers are on my account. Only my wife and I live there. I'm paying for the account and equipment. No violation of law. DishNetwork may not like it but there are things I don't like about DishNetWork. What can I do about it. Nothing.

so my parents have a 522 that they haul to their lake home, what would the problem be in connecting a phone line to it? why would they want to pay $5 extra per month (for no phone line connected) if it's Ok to take a receiver to another property they own?

Reason is, the unit might dial out to Dish from a different number than what is on your account, and they probably would shut it down.

If they use it there for a weekend or even a week, there shouldnt be an issue leaving it unplugged from the phone line.

I wouldn't pay for the extra receiver if you are there only a short time, I would just take one or two with me for the month, same as when we go camping.

Dish seems to have the problem with it running in two places, so if you take the stuff from one location and take it to your second location, you have basically moved for a month.
I am not sure why you couldn't even call in and change your service address to Dish for that time, and hook it up to the phone line.

we use to do that, but the problem is the owners of the lake house are myself & my dad. Some weeks he goes, some weeks I go, so we just left it there.

because what happens if the camp is in a different DMA? Then you would requalify for locals. Our lake house is in Minneapolis DMA, yet I have Duluth locals.

Like I say...for a weekend or a week...just take it with you and hook it up. Its done all the time

the thing is ...... is that they're there for the summer not just the weekend. Should they call dish and tell them they moved? and do the same when they go back to the homestead in the fall?

tough call on that one....since our reciever is a single one, there is no issues. I don't know about the dual tuner ones.

i don't think a dual-tuner would give you too many problems if it does call dish and add lake phone number to your account as well

if my lake home wasn't in canada, id take a receiver between my homes but instead i have bell up at the lake and dish and direct at my primary home

Can you even add two phone numbers to your account? Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of requiring a phone line?

I am pretty sure you can with direct i have 4 numbers on my account
so i think dish would at least allow 2
for dish i use my cell and my dual tuners dial out from different number in my house and dish hasn't complained yet

For what it's worth, I have four receivers on my account, one of which is used solely at my camp. I bought this 4th receiver off of Ebay, and called in to have it activated for the sole purpose of camp tv. The CSR said that it was no problem at all having it at my camp. :)

Is there a "Guide" for Dish DVR?

Why isn't FX in Top 60?
