I only use the old DVD recorders that were actually made by Toshiba, once you've used one there just isn't anything else. Amazing machines, nothing else ever came close and never will. Another recorder isn't an option. None of them have component inputs. I have an EXH but from what I've read there's no way to burn HD material from that to DVD besides a standalone recorder.
What's wrong with telling why?
Why not just get an RGB to S-video changer?
what appears to be wrong with your receiver? I would address that before I would switch to a lesser unit.

I burn very few DVDs. I'd love to hear more about what makes those Toshibas so good, though.
You have fallen victim to the "new model is better" syndrome. As I understand it, the 722 is far superior. The 722k was conceived at Dish as a cheaper to manufacture unit (hence no built in OTA tuner, e.g.). It was to save them money, not give you a better DVR.what appears to be wrong with your receiver? They have unparalleled picture quality, stunning, nothing else compares. They also have the most options for editing, playback, recording, menus of any recorder ever made, the HDD models anyway. Once you've used one there just isn't anything else. Unfortunately, Toshiba stopped making recorders in 2006, they are Funai junk now. Fortunately, they can still be found on ebay.
What's inferior about the 722?
My 722k has to be reset every few days because the guide doesn't work right, it won't recognize the EXH or it just locks up. It constantly doesn't recognize the EX HDD, I have to turn the HDD dock on/off several times to get it to find the drive. The guide gets so slow to respond it's unusable. The DVR thinks there's timer conflicts when there isn't any other timers anywhere near the one I'm trying to make. The remote sensor is pathetic, I have to press keys 3 or 4 times to get it to work. I'd guess that one is probably just a crappy remote sensor.
Maybe all these receivers are like this, I don't know.
