Howdy gang!!! As you guys know last week I started a thread call Another One Bites The Dust... I had a 510 that with a few exceptions worked flawless... I got a replacement DVR and today shipped out my old trusty 510 back to Dish... This is normal, but what took place while getting my RCVR ready to ship at the UPS store opened my eyes a little bit... The clerk who did my Dish return today said that in the last two to three weeks she has had at least 50 or so DVR's being returned... What is even more bizarre to this story is that she knew what models they were even though she is not even a customer... She just knew that they all were either 508's or 510's... What is up with a spike in returned DVR's??? Is there more to the P369 software that is causing HD failure or does it just so happen that a lot of these boxes are at least three years old or older??? I just thought it kinda strange that a non tech person paid close attention to this... What are you guys thoughts on this??? To me I thought it was kinda odd... CC

I wouldn't pay it much mind. The UPS guy said the same thing to me when I had to send a HR20 back, I just looked at him and went about my business.

I heard the same thing last year when I was returning my lease equipment that included a near flawless 508, nothing was wrong with any of it I just didnt have a line of site close to the house and I didnt want to bury a pole and run 250 feet of line.

I think they are a lot of UPGRADES to dual tuner. My uncle is having some problems with his 510 of many years, and he says because of that, he considers it a good time to upgrade to the 625 which he has been meaning to do for the last 18 months. Yes, I believe people are having problems with the 50x's, but they are upgrading IMHO.

when i ask this question they tell me all HD will eventually fail in its lifetime.
From the 501 forward DISH has had a very high incidence of hard drive failures compared to TiVo. As long as you are leasing it is no real problem except the temporary loss of a receiver.:)
