columbus, oh.
Hello, is it bad for the Genie to leave a recorded show that you are watching paused for a long time. I mean like hours or something, and if you put a show on "pause" and did not come back would it just stay on pause or will it go to live t.v. or something at some point?

Boxes have a power save feature, I think the default is 4 hours and it will shut off.

Bad? Depends on your TV. Some have burn in problems more than others.

Leaving the DVR in pause shouldn't be a problem. But as noted, it may turn off in power saver mode and thus lose where it was paused.
However, turning the DVR on and then selecting play for the recording will pick it up where you left off.
If you have a TV that may suffer from burn in, just turn the TV off.

Well, I should be more specific. I was watching a show and my friend rang the door bell, I paused my show and we ended up going out for like an hour and a half. When I got home I was like "oh, sh*t", I left the dvr on pause. I don't have any questions about the T.V. being hurt. I am wondering if my actions would hurt the Genie by me leaving it paused for so long?

No you aren't hurting anything. The other thing is the buffer is only for an hour and half (at most 2 hours) or so so once that is up it will start playing regardless if you push play or not.

It doesn't matter how long is paused as the screensaver appears for a few minutes, but if your that worried just turn the tv off, every tv is different in terms of IR issues (which is different than burn in) Which will go away when you change channels and limit channel logos on screen for too long.

It's not a VCR or film projector. I'm sure that's why you asked. Back in the day, it was supposedly bad to pause a film for a long time.
