I'm interested in upgrading to the genie HR44. Now I have two cable coming into the HR24. Do I need to have any improvements with the dish or cables entering the house? Thanks for your help.

Oh yeah! You're gonna need a SWM upgrade. It consists of swapping the LNB (eye) of your dish and running just 1 line down from it. Currently you should have 4 lines coming down to either a multi-switch or a quad ground block then from there the lines go to their receivers. You'll need to have either the ground block or multi-switch swapped out

Ok, that's good to know..and yes I do have four lines coming from the dish to a block and then splits 2 and 2 to 2 different receivers. Thanks.

:welcome to Satelliteguys trburr31!

Switching to swm is easy like hutch says. They will replace your lnb for a new swm type, use only one of the existing cables from the dish, and install an inline power inserter. If you are keeping one of the receivers/dvrs, then they will also install a splitter. If you are keeping both existing boxes, and they are both dvrs, then you will have more than eight tuners including the HR44. That means they will leave your dish and existing cabling, but will install a new swm16 switch and power inserter.

My thoughts are that I'll upgrade to the HR44 and use the HR24 for my other TV. Getting the free upgrade after two years with the protection package, just a new thought. Do I want to trade both HR 24 and the other receiver in for new receivers? Then do I want two HR44? for two different TVs. One for the kids and one for the adults?

You can only have one Genie on your account for now. Maybe in the future they will let you have more than one. The HR24 is the latest and best regular dvr. I would keep that one and replace your other one with the HR44.
