Hello everyone... Here is a hypothetical situation: If you had an old Dish Network dish with a single LNB what satellite would you point it at if you didn't care about locals or HD and why would you point it there? 61.5?

The receiver would be either a Duo 322 or a ViP 222K. Would the LNB have to be a Dish Pro LNB or would one of the older LNBs work?
322 can't be used on Eastern Arc so 222 would be most flexible and 72.7 gives the most programming off EA. 119 gives most usage off WA. from SC EA has best view angles.

119 is and always has been the main satellite for most of the main satellite stations. As far as EA its a toss up between 61 and 72 due to the channels being split up. In one way, if they would put the most popular ones on 61 or 72 then you would only need to hit that one satellite to get the best choice like we have on 119 today. In another way, if you are tree'd out from getting one satellite or the other then it gives people at least some stations. If there were a lot of tree'd out situations then it would be cool to have the channels on one satellite as a package and the other as a different package for such situations. Most likely in such situations you could get either EA or WA.

must be using that fuzzy dish math again with the duplicate channel numbers and the 200 audio stations ;)
Yeah, you're right, I did include the duplicate channel numbers on both lists. So the numbers are 85 for 61.5 and over 300 for 72.7. There were no music channels in my count. Or do you want me to remove all the ALT, PPV and League Pass channels as well? If I do that, 72.7 still has over 200 SD channels. ;)

Just get a cheap DISH 500 and call it a day. 110/119 will have all the SD content. With enough patience you could even pull in 61.5/72.7 with the 500.

My daughters dish 500,pointed at 110/119,has started losing signal on a few transponders.Leaves on the trees are the culprit.Today I decided I would try to use the 500 for 61.5 and 72.7.Didn't have a whole lot of time, getting the exact coordinates at dishpointer, isn't really exact as it only gives the 1000.4 settings.Anyway I managed to hit 72.7 with 50% on most trans.By that time she was ready to watch tv,so I left it as is.Ran the check switch,d/loaded guide, and was very surprised to see that she gets all the basic cable networks.Only thing that is missing is local channels. On the plus side she now has many more hd channels.I'll try to get 61.5 tuned in tomorrow.

So,for an mpeg4 receiver,my sat of choice would be 72.7.

There's quite a few channels on 61.5 that she would be missing out on but each slot on EA does have quite a few channels.

The real solution would be to update to a real system. You can get an EA or WA dish for $99 from dishdepot.com, and install it yourself if you do not want a commitment. Of course you can get an upgrade from Dish for a bare minimum price if you want to commit for 2 years.
