Here is my issue and setup:

I have both cable and sat. service, I have only a single service feed to my place, this can not change. I have 1 standard def. DirecTV dish(single lnb), and 1 D10 standard def. receiver. At my outside service line from the street, I have a diplexer placed to take in the cable service feed and my satellite feed, which then puts out my service line that comes into my house(in garage). There I have a diplexer placed to take IN the service line and put OUT the seperate cable feed and sat. feed, the cable feed is then split with one line going to where my cable modem is placed and one feeding the IN on an 8 way coax distribution amp, which then obviously feeds the wall plates in my house. The sat. feed is then fed to another diplexer IN where there is a jumper placed on the the one OUT of the diplexer that goes to the cable amp, the other OUT of the diplexer is the cable that goes to the wall plate where I haved placed the DirecTV receiver. At that point, the wall plate in the "DirecTV room", comes off to another diplexer IN, with one OUT to my DirecTV receiver and the other to a cable box.

Here is the problem, when the DirecTV receiver has its feed connected(f-connector on back), I lose some, not all of my HD channels on the CABLE service in my house, not only on the cable box that is connected in this line as mentioned above, but any of them, DirecTV service is perfectly fine, no issues at all. So all I can come up with is some sort of back fed interference or noise??? So what guru can read all this and let me know what to do, I really want to fix this. Thanks for your help, everyone.

thanks for the reply. those are not options. I cannot run another service feed, and I need both. there has to be a way to solve my issue. those are not options. i have attached a picture illustrating best I can.

My first guess if this is even possible is that maybe the use of diplexers is incorrect or maybe the type of.

First of all, I'd ask what brand diplexers are you using? A low quality diplexer will cause all manner of problems.

if you read the whole post, yes i know, very long, it is possible, as it is working flawlessly on the D*tv side of things. i am simply losing(not receiving) all of my CABLE HD channels when the directv receiver is connected with its feed(seen in picture)

I'm wondering if you could maybe add a splitter on the cable coming out of #2 diplexer, so that the line that has the D10 on it doesn't run through the amp?

hey toober,

i think i get what you're saying, but i don't think i can do that, because, i have to get cable feed to that room as well, if i had 2 lines running to the room in question than i think your solution would work, but i dont.

is there somewhere that i should may place a satellite filter for its bandwidth, because the problem only occurs when the Dtv receiver is plugged in?

A diplexer works by combining the TV frequencies from 5-860mhz with the satellite frequency 950-2050mhz. It also passes control voltage on the satellite leg and blocking the voltage on the antenna/cable leg of the diplexer.

If the cable signal passes through the 4 diplexers when the satellite receiver is not plugged into ac power but still connected to the diplexers look for a problenm with 12-18volts being passed onto the TV leg instead of being blocked.

If the cable signal only works with the diplexer removed look for the cable company using frequencies higher than the normal 860mhz.

If you have tried 4 different branded diplexers and still have the same problem go back to my original suggestion of 2 separate cables.

Did you ever check to see what type of diplexers you're using? Cheap diplexers cause a lot of problems. The best kind are from a company called Holland. They have blue and red ones. THe blue are the best. What kind are in your setup?

Its also possible your Amp/Diplexers etc one of them may not be rated to properly carry the frequencies needed for some of your cable HD channels. You could also be over/under amplifying the signal which causes it to just not work too.

but it sounds like your are getting some frequency feedback which is distorting the HD frequency and not converting it.

Edit.. ok looking at your diagram better... reminds me of my SBCA3 Class :(

you are definitely getting frequency overlap. If you can get a hold of a techy cable tech and find out the frequency break down and make sure you match out the difference. the other option would be to remove diplexers 1 and 2 and use a 2 port groundblock as they are really reduntant and see if it relives teh diplexing/combing you have going on. Directv will operate from 250mhtz to 1440mhtz (or close, higher for HD) and cable will operate from 5-950mhtz (sometimes higher) so when you plug in DTV it becomes the dominate provider becuase of db spectrum. I am assuming your 1x8 is is 8x 8db out?

Answering this question may help out a lot too.. why is running a dedicated line to the D10 out of the question?

hey guys,

thanks for all the posts,

Tyralak,

I am using DirecTV approved Perfect Vision diplexers.

Jef,

I double check the cable amp specs and get back to you. Thanks for your help, I have lots to look at.

<<going to where my cable modem is placed and one feeding the IN on an 8 way coax distribution amp>>

Can you do a test at this point instead of line feeding into 8 way coax, plug directly into cable receiver?

Also i was going to suggest that instead of using 8 way, how about trying 3 or 4 ways. When you split into 8 way signal loses DB , not sure what's the loss is for 8 way.

Gee, you got 8 set of TVs at ur place.. lol

i found that when u use a diplexer in eithier a sat or cable programming u will loose hd channels sooo what im saying is take it out out and run a a direct line to see if that solves your problem

I agree with the above; just because they say DirecTV approved, does that mean they are compatible 110% with your cable co? You say "DirecTV Approved by Perfect Vision; heck should have just listed the model number to make it easy and us needing to ask yet another question. And this is a Ka/Ka 5 LNB DirecTV setup correct?

I may be wrong, but this wasn't the diplexer issue / check asked way back at the beginning.

Are we talking about the Perfect Vision PVDP2PP?
• 5~2250 MHz In
• 5~862 MHz Out (TV)
• 950~2250 MHz Out (Satellite)

they are Perfect Vision PVDP3's

seen here: http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Ripley/Picture3_001.gif

The diplexers came and were installed by a Dtv installer.

and no, not a Ka/Ku 5 lnb setup, AS I STATED in the original post it is a DirecTV 18" SINGLE LNB dish for STANDARD DEF.

ALSO, as I stated, I CANNOT ADD WIRE/CABLE TO/FROM the dish or anywhere else for that matter, due to the buildings restrictions.

I do appriciate everyones input, especially those who took the time to READ the entire post and LOOK at the diagram I attached. Don't think you thoughts and ideas went un-noticed. I just wish everyone else who wishes to participate could do the same, that is READ the entire post before you comment. Thank you.

The issue is not the diplexers as far as signal flow, the problem which I and others have determined is that of backfed interference. I am looking for a way to fix that, whether the addition of a part in the line or a readjustment using the CURRENT parts shown in the diagram, NOT adding new cable drops, which, yes I know would fix the problem.

if you have a diplexor your will loose hd channels and there is now why around it you have to a direct line and im sorry that you have to hear it again

i'm not losing DirecTV HD channels, I don't have DirecTV HD!!!!!

I'm losing cable HD channels ONLY !!!!!!! when my DirecTV receiver has its satellite feed connected.

Remember if you look at the diagram there are always 3 diplexers in place, and operation of cable is flawless until the dtv receiver has in satellite(f-connector) feed connected.

Shouldn't it be pretty clear... it's the diplexers. Sometimes it doesn't matter how "good" they are, they still reduce signal level. This reduction is, unfortunately, enough to kill the signal.
