the first one : signal strength
the second one : signal quality

im really asked this question b4..but never got good answer..im wanna know what the difference btween them...why always the strength indicator level higher than the quality one?......thx 4 help

Strength apparently includes noise. Bottom like from the folks who have been doing this a long time.... Ignore strength, it's all about the quality.

l strength means your near a satellite (any satellite)
quality is what you need to make the picture come in.

If you have a motorized unit, change satellites and bring up your meter (if you can. I know the Pansats can). You'll see strength jump from 68-82 as it passes satellites. No quality until it hits the channel though :)

The tuners in the satellite receivers have AGC (automatic gain control). When not on a satellite, they amplify the incoming noise and will show a signal. The idea of the AGC is to keep the incoming signal at a certain level. As the dish gets a signal from the satellite, the AGC will adjust the gain (trying to keep the signal at a certain level) as it trys to pick the data out of the noise. Too much or too little of a signal and the tuner will not be able to find the data. This is why there is AGC, how accurately the tuner can pick the data out of the signal is the Quality level. The higher the Quality level, the more accurately you are getting the data.
Satellite signals are extremely low powered. About the same power as a 60w light bulb, but 22,000 (approx) miles away. The amplifiers in the LNB's are extremely sensitive with very low noise in amplification, but there is some noise due to the electronics used. You will see this factor represented as degrees in the LNBF ratings.
