An old satellite guy I know with literally tons of satellite stuff, hundreds of dishes of all kinds, has come under fire from the county to get rid of this 30 year accumulation of stuff. The scruntiny from the County most likely comes from the guy who bought the empty lot across the street and is developing it for resale. To top it off his sister is having him evaluated as a "Hoarder". Hoarder? WTF People celebrate this kind of stuff. It's what makes American Pickers a #1 rated show. But right or wrong, like it or not, my satellite junkyard is going away. :( I am going to go cherry pick some stuff to "Hoard" for myself, but it makes me sick to think of all the good stuff that will soon be gone.

Am having my own "issues" with what am told can and can't be in my own backyard so I 100% dont agree when neighbours complain and get their way. Dont like what your looking at, then either dont look or plant a tree. Its unfair as your friend was likely there first and the neighbour wants it gone so he can maximize his return.

I recall seeing a few pics of this sat jukyard, am sure it made 99% of us FTA'ers envious.

In my "younger" days, I would have sold a lot of stuff and w/ the money set up something that would have really annoyed the guy...

Cheers, K

When the writers of the Declaration of Indepence wrote one of the first drafts - - - - it said "Life, Liberty and Property" of course we know it now says "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness". That said, who is being affected by this guy keeping his stuff? That being said is there any middle ground?? I don't even know the guy and I feel bad for him because I feel his rights are being violated. How could we help??

That's sad. Perhaps you could offer to assist by providing free storage space for some of his stuff off his property to get the authorities off his back. Make sure none of the satellite stuff goes to the scrappers. Regardless of what happens, take some pictures before anything is taken away.

Well I'm going to asorb as much of it as I can, but I'll hardly put a dent in it. I was out to his horse pasture looking at a bunch of BirdViews, a stack of 1.2M Prodlins. A nice 12' solid(3pc) commercial dish. He won't lose it all but he will lose a lot. He must have 20 tons of mast piping ratholed. 900lbs of GI DSRs went to the recycler already.

There is a fine line between being a satellite hobbyist and a hoarder. ;)

Looking at the storage room, I may have crossed the line a few times!

Not to cloud the issue with facts :D
I find myself having to throw away satellite stuff to make room for more satellite stuff.

I would try to organize some sort of auction in collaboration with a local ham radio club. You could also post the smaller shippable items on eBay and/or right here at SatelliteGuys and get commission for every item you help to sell.

I remember a few years back, they started building a few subdivisions in the north end of the county, which is mostly rural. Suddenly, the new residents were complaining about the smell from the chicken houses all around them. *duh*

If anybody ever dared to complain about dishes or anything about my yard, they should take note! I live less than a minute from the new Casino in Moncton. I'm zoned agricultural/residential and I would have a goat or cow tethered on my lawn. My Dad had chickens for years. Good neighbors, but new ones wouldn't want to test my patience.

Sad!! I live in a fairly rural area and we had a old guy who had a junkyard in his backyard and i had no problem with that.I few years ago a small new development went up half a mile away and a few of the new neighbors complained about the junk yard. One day when i was out front working on my stone wall by the road one of the new neighbors stoped me and asked me about the old man and his junkyard. They said it was a eye sore and would attract rats! I said to them that he was a nice old man and i had no problem with the junkyard and said that i have never seen a rat yet in the 8 years ive lived here.I get real tired of people that move into the area and tell others who have lived in the area all there lives what to do with there property.PS The old guys daughter now lives in the house and her dad is in a retirement home! The junk yard still stands.

NO Birdview should be scrapped or used for anything but its intended purpose...that's a SIN! One might even get hit by lightning if attempting to scrap one! (insert thunder clap here!)

Progress is about 10 miles from us and has been that way for years. I've got my dishes, antennas etc...I can burn leaves or shoot a rifle. Around here it's fairly rural and no one says much. I hope it stays that way. I feel sorry for that guy he was probably just collecting stuff like the rest of us...nosy neighbors we can do without them

Hope the guy gets some legal advice before he rolls over to the demands. He might even find a nearby Legal Aid society to help, if he can't afford an attorney.

I'm trying hard not to go on a rant here, since the forum has a "no politics" rule, and I am currently having to defend myself against similarly unconstitutional action (don't worry, it does not involve my satellite equipment yet)...

Suffice it to say that our freedoms have gone to hell in a handbasket. And then there's this:

To top it off his sister is having him evaluated as a "Hoarder". Hoarder?

That term is recent "PC speak" for anyone who collects things that others don't understand, and therefore can't tolerate. Naturally, it is a medical condition and requires government intervention (sarcasm intended, folks)...

During World War II, many of these "hoarders" would have been considered "resourceful" or even "patriotic." Saving and reusing instead of always throwing out everything and buying new.

I have a neighbor that is another development behind me that is an absolute nut-job. All sorts of harassment because her neighborhood has rules about clearing vegetation that mine does not. Somehow she got it in her head that I had to follow her rules even though the HOA, the county and the State all told her she was wrong.

Anyway, when my 8 footer ( that i changed to a 10 footer ) got her riled up again, I solved the problem. I planted giant bamboo that blocked her view of my house, my dish and... oh by the way... her view of the lake she used to have but to keep her from having to look at my BUD. I was just being, um, "considerate" :p
