HR44 questions ....

You can set up whole home to not share in the settings, or you can go into the list and select local playlist only on each DVR seperatelty. Or cancel the whole home service and save 3 bucks a month.

Hmmm, wonder why the installer didn't tell me that when I asked ...

Thats another fee that is unnessasary, but seeing others have charged it, they can too.

If it will make you feel better, Dish does the same with the Hoppers. :)

I think the theory that both use is that the Genie/Hopper boxes are described as whole home media servers and you are paying the extra because of that whether you can or do use it or not.

I can use it, I just choose not too.

Still contemplating getting a URC Remote to handle everything I use and do away with the D* remote(s), the Pioneer Elite, Sony Blu Ray , and try to go with just one.

Looking at the MX 880 ... the 890 is also a possibility.

I use a Logitech Harmony One for all my gear. IR these days seems to have a broad enough receiving area that it isn't all that important to me to support RF anyway.

Because as much as I hate to say it, most installers are around for 1-2 years and roll on to the next great gig in the sky. Very little of them actually know what's going on nor do they care. They'll do the job until the next great thing comes along or they get canned for something that "totally isn't their responsibility" because they was too lazy to learn how to work the systems.

This guy swore he'd been there for 5 years ....
But I think whats happening, is they are taught what they need to know to tell subs and they go thru thier presentation and the rest that isn't covered, they know nothing about.

Like I told you before, he said he'd NEVER seen a AM21 ...

Doesn't D* at least have or let you guys know about all the different equipment that they will come across ?

Nope, we are only taught what we install. I'm one of those guys that get curious and wonder so it makes me learn things and try stuff that aren't "part of the job". I use these knowledge to help myself be better informed and knowledgable on what is what and how things go. Sort of like the AM21 issue you and me had. Nobody in our training department knew how to hook it up. I had to think outside the box and do a little research but that IMO is what makes a good tech better

Well, I've had my HR44 for a little over 2 weeks now, connected to the internet since day one and have yet to have the Pandora, Youtube or the My D* stuff.

Why is that ?

Good question. Mine popped in real quick on my new HR44. I did have that problem on an older DVR after a firmware update. I think the solution was to do 2 (or was it 3?) RBRs right in a row & that actually worked. Not sure if it will help for the HR44 but with as fast as it cycles through a reset it's worth a try.

Other than that how do you like the HR44? I am loving mine. I knew I'd prolly like it but I love it, it is what the older DVRs should have been all along. Too bad the off air tuner isnt built in but oh well. I 95% like the new remote too!

I like the unit, its quick and works well.
An OTA tuner in the unit would be awesome ... that said, I don't see D* ever going back to them seeing they handle Locals in the DMAs they have.

Still hate the remote.

So much that I bought a Universal Remote.

I don't believe what I just did ...

I just started to do the RBRs, and it dawned on me after I did it that I am recording tonight and am now missing the middle of the show I watch most.

One thing I DO NOT like about the 44 is the fact that the Record light is VERY dim, unlike the rest.

Had I seen it, I would not have ruined my recording tonight.

No pop warning about disrupting a recording in progress?

I've seen a few times where the 44 (only model that does it) takes 2-3 weeks for ALL the features to come in. Can't explain it

Thinking about hopping over from Dish to Directv?

Question about recording and watching simultaneous shows
