Hi guys,
As many of you know, I have been debating on getting an HR44 for awhile now, with the sticking point of that I hate the new remote ...
I WILL continue to use the old White remote ... I think.

I have been looking into it a little and I am currently able to get one free with the protection plan upgrade ...

I was all set a few weeks ago when the CSR was talking with me about it, she said she could send one out to me and I would take it from there, seeing I do all my own work anyways ...

Well, once she started writing it up, she said they would have to send someone out, which make me have to use a Saturday because I won't take a day off work for this ... I declined for the moment.

I like the fact the 44 works faster, and is WiFi (this is correct, right guys ?) I no longer need a connection going from the router to the recvr ?

Until recently I had no need for more than 2 tuners, but THIS season I find I have a need as some of my shows Record at the same time and I can't watch something else at that time ... it's hard when a game is on I'm already watching and this happens ...

So I decided I might give this a try.

Now, I have 4 HR24's, the 44 will replace a 24 ...
D* wants to send someone out because I will have a total of 11 tuners I am thinking ... however, in reality, 2 HR24's are on a different system in the Motorhome, so really, in the house I only have a total of 7 tuners if I do this.

I told the gal that, but she didn't seem to care.

As for changes I would need to make , I already have a SWM dish, a SWM8 splitter and a reg. 21v (I would imagine) PI.

This same equipment should work fine with a 44 and a 24 on the system only, Correct ?

IF I wanted to add to this, bring another HR24 on the system, would I need a SWM16 switch in place of the SWM8 ?
Is that really all there is too it, or is there more involved ?

If you go over 8 tuners then you will need to use a swm16 switch instead of a swm lnb. Also you will need a 29 volt power inserter instead of a 21 volt.

So, do you keep the same swm lnb and add a swm16 switch, or is it using a different lnb as well ?

Chances are, I would never have more than 7 on the main system anyways.

have them call before they/he is on his way to you. meet him at the gate with a $20 bill give him the $ tell him wife will not allow strangers in the house blah blah. worked for me. get his # just in case you have trouble. good luck you should love it i do.

this is not a good deal imo costing you $$
i took 2 years have no plans on changing services cost $0

Do you know for sure that you'll be getting a HR44? If DIRECTV is "paying" for it,then just humor them & have them change out your SWM8 for a SWM16,& if you need to,a new 4 cable LNB,because maybe you will bring in one or more HR24 from your motor home for whatever reason. If it's on their dime.........

They won't install a swm8/16 unless it's necessary to the install, that is, more than eight tuners.

I'd imagine that it would be on the work order that he already has 4 HR24's,& even though Jimbo's giving up one HR24,it'd still be on the work order that he needs a SWM16 installed in addition to the HR44,wouldn't it? I'm just saying,if it is on the work order that way, just go ahead & let him install it. You never know,he might could use it in the future,or he COULD talk the installer into just giving him the HR44,& he'll install it himself, skipping the SWM16.

If it's on the work order they may install the swm16, but if they see he doesn't need it then I'd guess he won't get one. Jimbo, let us know how it turns out.

Good point .. as for the 44, if they come out and don't have the 44 scheduled, I'll turn it down ...

My other option is to get one from SS , but that will cost me the $299 ...

How is it costing me ?

However, if they look at the account, they see 4 HR24's currently .... thus they would want to have a 16 even though I don't really need it at this point.

True, but I suspect if the tech gets there and sees you will have less than nine tuners connected he won't install the swm16.

Thats what I was hoping for originally ... thus I don't need any more lines from the dish and I have everything else I need in place, except apparently changing the PI out .

You mean because I have the PP it's costing me ?

I carry it anyways, just in case, regardless.

$100 a year or whatever it cost, is a lot cheaper than $299.
take the odds myself ..........17 years x ? = my $$
have lost 1 box in that time. and got the genie for free as a replacement for a 2 year deal.

take that back the wifes box hr20 just died 2 months ago got a hr 22 for free as a replacement.

See you "Settled" for a HR22 ....
If my HR20 died, I would NEVER accept a 22.

You downgraded in my opinion. I wouldn't have settled for anything less than a HR24.
