After three attempts and prices ranging from $298 to $398, I called D* this morning and this is the deal I got.

Free HD-DVR- billed and then credited to my account
$99 HD receiver
$99 SD-DVR
Premier Package- $20 off for 6 months
Another $10 credit for 10 months
Sunday Ticket-$50 for 5 months
Plus another $10 off because I am gonna bundle with AT&T.

Does this sound like a good deal to y'all or is there something I am missing?

It is important to do your homework. Basically what I did was break it down between Comcast,E*, and D*. I factored in the $298 and $398 that was quoted to me by D*. Doing that I was able to tell the retention person that on an average I would be paying about $15 to $20 a month more with D* when you factor in the startup costs. I told her I was not looking for free installation just a deal that would make financial sense to my family and I. I can tell you that if you keep a level head and be reasonable to whoever you talk to, they will be reasonable to you also. There also seems to be something about the third time you call that makes a difference also. I guess by the 3rd call they see you are serious about wanting to get service and will be more open.
Remember information is power. Thanks to everyone here a SatGuys who has armed me with all the info I needed to make a logical and educated decision.

i just hung up with d*, and they said there is no way they can do a free hd-dvr, please tell me your secret

You are very welcome and enjoy the new stuff. When is install? Try to join is in the Living on the Edge area when you get the new receivers.

Well i am not getting an install until I get into my new house. Could be a month or two. Line of sight issue at my current house. Rep told me they would hold offer for 60 days. Already have the new house prewired for D*. I have two lines run in three rooms.

Its called getting DISH Network :)

Yes i could have gotten Dish Network and got the free HD-DVR and it is a good one no doubt. I have had it before but I had problems with trees. I could have gotten the same equipment for only $99 with them, but I want Sunday Ticket. We usually have to go to my inlaws on Sunday during football season because they have Sunday Ticket. If I have it also then maybe they could come to our house sometimes too. Plus i love my football. With all the new HD coming to D* and E* it is indeed a good time to be a Sat customer. I don't have faith that my local Comcast can keep up with it all. Our system is old and it will take time to get it up to speed. I liked E* and it was between D* and E*, but the Sunday Ticket was the kicker.

Todays Deal from Directv

I have been a Directv customer since 1999. Here is the deal they offered me:
1 Free HD DVR, a 2nd HD DVR for $199. Free dish and installation. HBO, Cinemax and Showtime for 3 months. I pushed for 6 six months on HBO deal but they would not budge.

I guess the free HD DVR and the $199. is a good deal.

they wont offer me a free hd dvr as a current customer. i just want to know how people get them to do it.

If you already have Dish Network and you want a free upgrade you are going to have a hard time getting a free upgrade to a HD-DVR. Your best chance at getting one is to e-mail ceo@echostar.com and tell them your situation. How long have you been a Dish customer?

few years, they offer it to new customers, my initial commitment is up, if they wanna keep me, its in thier interest to make me happy

Call and ask for an account specialist( not a CSR). They can get in touch with the executive office and hopefully they can help you. Try the email route too. They are usually pretty quick to respond.
