Question for those that have had both the original hopper and the hopper with sling.....I know the sling model has a faster core processor.....but does that equate to faster guide surfing? faster search function?

I have both and really never paid much attention. My regular Hopper is in the basement and I don't use it as often though.

Yes, the Hopper with Sling works much faster than the Hopper 2000 on nearly all it's functions including guide and menu displays.

And with more memory and built in Sling, it's more future proof, IMHO.

I second this. I held off on upgrading, thinking I didn't really need the "with Sling" portion, but when I finally pulled the trigger I was pleasantly surprised with the increased speed of the UI. It is well worth an upgrade.

Only wish I would have gotten two Slings instead of one H2K and one Hw/Sling a year ago. Sling is visibly faster in a number of areas. Not OMG! dramatic, but enough to go dual Sling. And you'll have the ability to watch your DVR content online or from mobile with the Sling.

It's faster but speed alone wouldn't be my deciding factor , as it's not THAT much faster (if speed is the only factor, swap to direct and get the hr-44 genie).

I'd get it over the original hopper for the overall improvements though. Imo, it's the best overall dvr on the market.

I understand Dish is no longer making Old Hopper new placements. Anyone know if this is true?

Not exactly sure, but they do allow us to replace the 2000 with hws now with no issue. A while back they would only allow a same receiver type replacement.

My HWS gets slower with each software update. They keep loading it up with more junk. It really zoomed when I first got it. Now, it is fast, but a lot slower. Just like a pc, which I guess it really is.

Per a SatGuys Radio conversation with Vivek, they plan to do some software optimizations, which may recover some of the speed.

What do you mean by "replace" ? I presume you mean you have a work order to install an original Hopper but only have Hopper w/ Slings in stock that you can use them. I guess it could also apply to dead receivers where the customer needs a technician to do the swap.
