Hopper/Broadband/MoCA Question

Hi All,

Just got my 2 HWS 2 weeks ago. I have CAT 5 going to both HWS's. Realized yesterday that 1 HWS wasn't on DRA. Turned out that the network cable was loose at the router.

However before I realized the problem I checked the broadband setting on the receiver. Initially unbeknownst to me I was in the MoCA broadband settings by default as there was no ethernet connected at that point. I had 3 red bars and no connection. I tried resetting and renewing, red button reset, and unplugging the receiver, all to no avail.

I thought that if 1 receiver was connected to the net (which I had), it would share broadband via MoCA with the other receiver. Is that not correct?

Bridging needs to be enabled on the connected hopper. It may be off by default.

If you go into that same broadband sub-menu and hit the blue shortcut button twice it will pull up a hidden bridging icon.

It should if you enable "bridging" on the hopper that is connected to the Internet. Bridging is disabled by default, I believe. It was on mine.

One last question. Is there any reason not to leave bridging enable on both receivers in case of an ethernet problem in the future?

If you have bridging enabled you should not have Ethernet connected to any other hoppers/joeys except for the one with bridging enabled. I believe it would cause ip conflicts unless the software has been updated to use one over the other. I've never tried it, but have heard of people who have had problems doing so.

Also as a side note, after I enabled bridging I had to reset the hopper via the red button on front and unplug the power from all joeys before everything worked correctly.

What equipment do I need to complete a MoCA connection? I have a DECA device from DirecTV, will that work with Dish or do I have to purchase something else?

I have a Hopper in the living room , a Joey in the bedroom and router and PC in the office. There is already a coax cable run from the router to the Joey. What do I need to do to use MoCA instead of using wi-fi? And would MoCA be much better than using wi-fi?

The Moca would be faster, is that coax actually connected from router to joey? I would look closely and confirm that. Just hook the coax line from the joey to the client port on node to use Moca.

You don't connect it to your router, you connect that end to the node that the tech installed. Just be sure to connect it to the client port on the node.

Why do you have coax going from the router to the joey locations in the first place?

There is no purpose for a coax run from router to Joey. Are you sure the dish tech ran that? The node is the junction between where the hopper and Joey both connect and communicate. So, there should be a coax line between Joey and the node client port.
