HomePlug drops connection, will 2 HomePlugs help?

I currently have my 622 connected to broadband via Netgear XE102 Ethernet Bridge. I am using the power cord from 622 directly to wall socket as instructed. Bridge is hooked into 4 port router.

When first installed the dvr connected and obtained the ip addresses. Every time I turn the receiver back on the I get the message about the receiver needing to be connected to phone line or broadband. When I try to reset connection sometimes it connects and sometimes not, but always disconnects on its on. When I first installed it I called dish, they said everything looked fine and I should no longer have to pay the $5 monthly fee. I looked at bill online and am still being charged. Its really no wonder because the thing is constantly offline.

Sorry to ramble, but I was wondering if anyone had connected via 2 wall plugs and ethernet cable to back of dvr. Does this work better, more reliable? I would be willing to try it with some encouragement as current set up is not getting it done.

I don't have a land line phone so that is not an option. I have searched the board and tried some of the suggestions posted by other users. Nothing has worked.

Thanks in advance.

Those wall plugs are jokes, i have 2 sets of them thinking it would eliminate wires. But the damn things dont maintain a content stream. Theirs $180 im never going to see again. Your best bet would be to buy a 50ft. Ethernet cable and just connect it manually. Maybe you can hide it under a rug, run it threw a window or drill a few holes in the wall .

I, as many others, have been using HomePlug devices for a while now with no issues. 722 and PS3 hooked via a 4 port HomePlug and I have have never had a connection or streaming issue. Play Resistance 2 online all the time. Never have drop outs or lag. Downloaded several programs with the 722. No problems what so ever. So maybe it a seetings issue.

Not to note the obvious - but have you updated the firmware and checked out the troubleshooting information on Netgear's site? Here's the link to their KB... and their firmware.

I have been using them with my Xbox as well as my 622 for over a year now, without any issues.

Read the suggestions above from others like jetsetter. But to answer your question, no, adding another Homeplug will not help. You already have a second Homeplug device built into your dish receiver.

Home Plugs

I have been using Home Plugs for my home networking for several years and have never encountered any problem with them. I have my ViP622 and Wii console connected to my router via Home Plug and the only time I have a problem is when my DSL provider flakes out. The High Speed internet source is what causes me problems - not the Home Plugs!

I use homeplug as a part of my business regularly. The only issues I have found have been with large home with multiple power meters and pannels. and with whole house surge supression. Try a different outlet in your home, and make sure you are not using a non homeplug compliant. surge supressor on the homeplug outlet.

I have struggled mightily trying to get dishcomm to work through homeplug. They just won't see each other. I got a slingbox for christmas, and to get it on my home network, I used a slinglink, which is their version of homeplug. Well that didn't work for crap either. Slow connection speeds, and very shaky connection. So for whatever reason, homeplug doesn't work well in my house. It's a newer house, built in 1997, no power surge protections or anything else I can think of. I wish I could get it to work, but no such luck.

Since dish is charging me the programming fee based on my 622 this is the receiver I have been trying to get connected. I checked out my 612 last night and it is connected and online! It is also plugged into a cheap surge protector. I never had to reset connection, I just checked it and it was connected! Is this crazy or what?

I will call dish tech tomorrow and see what they say. Its makes no sense at all. I follow dish instructions 100% and it does not work on the 622, but I do everything wrong on the 612 and it works.

Does it sound like a conspiracy to collect an extra $5 from me monthly?

I have been using the same configuration as WGBrock. Back in September or October I started having problems only on my 622. It regularly drops its IP address for some reason. My 722 has been rock solid. I think that one of the software updates created this problem on the 622. JM2C.

I have the opposite problem with my ViP 211. When it reboots at night, there's a 50-50 chance that the DishComm picks up the Broadband IP address instead of the Ethernet I have connected to the Gigabit switch (which is connected via the Sling Link to the router in the basement). If I run the Sling Link utility on my one PC, I see both of my ViP receivers, but neither receiver can see the other using the DishComm test on the receivers.

I don't expect the ViP 622 to work with the Home Plug PowerLAN since I have it plugged into an APC UPS, so I'm surprised the Sling Link utility sees it. I have it networked using an Airport Express set up with WDS so it acts like a wireless bridge. The Airport Express also provides an iTunes connection to my Home Theater so I can listen to my music collection in multiple rooms at once, a nice added benefit.

With all the WiFi networks in my neighborhood (I can see 10 broadcasting SSIDs, who knows how many are "hidden"?) I thought it would be good to switch to plan "B" and minimize the use of the WiFi.

I got the same issue with one of my receivers connected to a home plug adaptor.

Luckey for me I got an eithernet jack behind the TV and was only using the home plug since I was too lazy to move out the TV from the wall to connect it up

I am using the Netgear XEPs103 Powerline Network Extender . Got it from Amazon. Its also a power supply for my Netgear router. It works great with my VIP622. I've never had a dropout

What to do with old receiver
