Am I in the wrong or is Dish really this desperate to keep subs…

A while back I put my Dish service on pause while I saved up for the ETF since I couldn’t take it with me. Fast-forward to yesterday. When I tried to extend it, they told me my account was not eligible, which I found odd. After getting nowhere with the representative and being transferred, I decided to pull out a credit card and cancel. They refused to let me cancel or extend the pause without paying another month of service and I told her that’s not possible because they even gave me a credit when I started the pause for unused service. I had to get a little heated with them, and they finally got rid of the “required month of service” and when I tried to pay she was like “oh no, we have to charge the card you used to qualify and sign up with”. I don’t have that bank account anymore so they said they were going to attempt to charge the card and then bill it or collections and I need to make sure it doesn’t land in collections. I don’t know if I was in the wrong, misunderstood, or if Dish is trying whatever at this point to squeeze money out of fleeing customers. I know I wasn’t looking for retention offers, but I was actually shocked that they offered none. Now we wait to see if that bill comes in the mail to avoid collections.

Well, upon trying to log in this evening, it’s now giving me the option to pay the ETF on my account when yesterday I was presented with a message saying my service was disconnected. Not sure if I should pay it on mydish or wait for the bill to come in the mail…

Not super clear on your situation, but it reminds me of a customer conundrum posted on Claude's board back in the day- it was entitled "You must watch your dishnetwork". A customer had been activated without a completed installation and had been denied cancellation. I think they had like a 1 yr commit and this was way before they allowed putting on hold.

Oh wow, originally got the service March 2023. Put it on pause approximately one year later. Was told I could call in and extend it and got a credit for the unused days of service right up to the pause. That’s what baffled me when I called to extend the pause that they were pretty much refusing or holding me hostage till I paid another month of service to cancel even willing to eat it on the ETF. My hands were tied, moved to a place that did not allow satellite and have DTV Stream so no need for Dish

Dish isn't one to forget about a negative balance on a closed account, I'd probably just pay it and put Dish in the rearview mirror forever.
