Here is my SILVER & BLACK 2009 winning schedule

He's just not lobbing it up to a Bowe-caliber receiver every play like he was in college. During the first Monday night game they made it sound pretty dire, that at this point you are either accurate or you aren't, it's not something that gets better/worse... it's a skill you should already posses. He'd throw more picks if his throws were in the same ballpark on many plays, but they aren't, so he doesn't.

I think what happens to improve this is they only run a certain kind of offense that caters to the kind of throws he can make, and if that is too limiting, then they need a new QB. They likely will need a new one anyways, and if they tank this season (ie cant run the ball down everyone's throat) and have a moderately high draft pick I think they seriously consider taking one in the first.

Read what I posted for Paul.

If Jeff Garcia was our quarterback, he could EASILY be 2-0

This is what you probably should have said. You dont throw 50 passes to 'spots on the field', if that's why you think he's done so poorly then you should be blaming the coaches for not changing things after 1 quarter of suck.

With a more accurate QB, you guys would have beat the Bolts by 2 scores, and the Chiefs by probably twice that. Your defense has held up long enough in games that with 4-5 more completions per game to keep them on the field your running game would wrap them all up for you.

You're right tho, he's making some clutch throws (and there've been some clutch catches by the young guys) but you have to play a full game to be a NFL QB and absent the ability to make the normal ones, these clutch drives look more like luck.

Here's where we disagree. IF you go back to the last 5 games of last year, when we finally installed Thillens and Higgins at WR....which he practiced with the 1st time...he looked NOTHING like he has the last to games....why? 2 rookies WR.

Come to this years games...NO Thillens...NO Higgins....and no good stats.

I will be the VERY 1st to admit he has not looked good. ALL you had to do was look at the VERY 1st game and see the TERRIBLE trouble the rookies had getting off the blocks to run a route....they were just plain out hussled. Against KC, the issues was KC was beating the offensive line....he was getting hurried and rushed quite a bit. KC did a great job against the Raiders offensive line.

His late drives BOTH last year and this year AND the fact that he has yet to play what would equal a full NFL season(has ONLY started 16 NFL games), show's me he IS a talented complete QB.

Tell me, HOW many QBs can go through the coaching turnover and offensive changes that he has in his career and be expected to be a good ? It takes, from what I have read, approx., 3 full season for a starting QB to grasp his teams offensive concept/sceam....barring any changes at the head coach position....

Any one with a Brain sees this! Some haters might as well be rocks you would get more out of them!

It's Schilens, Chaz Schilens NOT Thillens.....

Yeah it takes several seasons for MOST qb to grasp what is need to be a pro QB and stability helps a lot. JRuss's issue at this point of the season is not his grasp of the offensive or even his understanding of coverage as both those only come with time. His fundamentals, his basic throwing mechanics are bad/inconsistent.

In an article in the Sirus Radio and reprinted on SFGate, Rich Gannon when back and broke down the film on JRuss for every pass he has thrown this season....this is what he had to say.

SFGate: Raiders Silver and Black Blog : Russell on WRs, Gannon on Russell

* Here's what former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon had to say about Russell on Sirius. Pay attention. This is the most in-depth critique I've ever seen of Russell's play from another coach or former player.

"There's been so much talk. I've talked to personnel people around the league. I've talked to people who have been at the games and there's a lot of concern right now about JaMarcus Russell and his accuracy, his completion percentage. So I went back and did a study. I looked at his 21 starts, he's completing just over 51 percent of his passes. And then this season, you look at his first two weeks, he's completing around 35 percent of his passes. That obviously is not very good. I just think he's missing too many opportunities and he's holding back this offense right now. So what I did was I broke down every pass attempt from the first two weeks."

Gannon then explains what he's seeing from a mechanical standpoint.

"A couple of things are very glaring. I think, you see a lot of times he falls away from throws. He seems to bail. I think a rush up inside bothers him. He needs to get more bend in his knees when he throws. He's very upright and not a lot of bend in his knees. It may have something to do with his weight. He seems to be more comfortable operating out of shotgun than he does under center. He doesn't do a very good job seeing out in front of throws and I think that comes with experience, really understanding and anticipating coverages. So that's not something he does. When you look at the offensive game plan, the passing game, I think they've condensed the plan. It's not very complicated. Fundamentally, right now, he is not very sound. His mechanics, his footwork, it's inconsistent."

"I think sometimes he predetermines where he's going to go with the ball. You can see that he makes up his mind very early in his drop. And the other thing is he misses a number of throws, almost a majority of his throws if you go back and look at it, they're high which tells you that more of that weight is not on the front foot, that he's leaning back, he's throwing off of his back foot. These are some things that really jump out at me."

Before anyone says the Raiders should make Gannon their quarterbacks coach, Gannon gave a ringing endorsement to Raiders quarterbacks coach Paul Hackett.

"Let me say this in terms of the coaching. He may have the premier (QB) coach in the National Football League when it comes to footwork, when it comes to preparing a quarterback in terms of the mechanics. Paul Hackett was my QB coach in Kansas City and was one of the big reasons why I was able to go on and have success in Oakland. He is a phenomenal coach. He coached Joe Montana. He's coached a lot of great players in this league. I know he's got a good coach there in Paul Hackett, his quarterbacks coach, a guy that I have the utmost respect for, and I know these are not the types of things, when I look at (Russell's) footwork, that he's coaching."

Higgins has returned to practice but is limited with a shoulder injury, Schilens has not started practicing yet. Nick Collins (shin splints) and Gallery (broken leg) listed as out on the injury report.

I've watched both of the Raiders games in their entirety by the way. The glass is half full mentality is amusing, but a bit too optimistic. You don't go 3-19 'throwing to spots on the field' against a defense that gave up 400+ yards the week before over the same period of time. Kinda like your final wins of last season, his final passes of the game turning it into 7-24 make it somehow not look as bad, but you can't paint a turd and call it something else.

Stop the run and cover the TE, that's how you beat the Raiders, the Chiefs just made too many mistakes.

RealGM Football: Wiretap Archives: Raiders' Gallery Out 4-6 Weeks

(Begin impression of Salsadancer)

We COULD have had Larry Fitzgerald, but NOOOOOOOO. Old man Davis had to go for some overrated college player who has proven to be nothing but a HUGE FREAKING BUST!

HE'S THE NEW FAT TUB OF GOO, A WASTE OF A DRAFT PICK!

(Ends impression of Salsadancer)

LOL! To Gallery's defense....he has had to play out of his natural position alot. But yeah, I WISH we would have had Fitzgerald.

I understand he's practicing running to spots on the field, but keeps under-running or over-running them.:D:D:D

Sorry Salsa, but that was just laying there, and I couldn't resist.;)

Well this is what this columnist saw
I do not agree 100% season so new to said that never in his life had seen a
QB PLAY AS BAD

By Jason Whitlock National Columnist

Jason Whitlock writes about the sports world from absolutely every angle, including angles other writers can't imagine or muster the courage to address. His columns are humorous, thought-provoking, agenda free, honest, unpredictable and uncomfortable for white and black people comfortable with their biases.

JaMarcus Russell makes Ryan Leaf look like a Hall of Famer.

Do not get caught up in the hype that Russell's game-winning drive against the Chiefs is some sort of sign that he's a competent NFL quarterback. He's not.

Never in my life have I seen QB play as bad as I witnessed from Off-The-Marcus Russell. From his demeanor, body language and the way he trotted off the field after every Oakland three-and-out series, Russell looked nothing like an NFL quarterback last week.

Until his game-winning drive, Off-The-Marcus had completed three of 17 passes for 42 yards. He missed countless open receivers. He never once read a defense. Despite being as big as most left tackles, Off-The-Marcus never threatened to tuck the ball and run.

He got lucky at the end of the game. The Chiefs softened their defense and the refs bailed him out with a questionable late-hit call.

I agree with the premise (as my posting in this thread shows), but Whitlock is pretty horrible, just takes everything to the extreme.

Ryan Leaf really wasn't good at anyting, at least accuracy aside JaMarcus can chuck that ball. Hail Mary from the opposite 20 no problem.
