The value of the new satellite is more than just capacity. It provides greater power and reliability and has a 13-15 year life, depending upon how it is used. While Dish is absolutely pushing the envelope on greater capacity (ever more power and spot-beams and steerable spots) with new satellites, one can not dismiss the huge importance of just more power and greater reliability that a new satellite provides. It really is just as important as capacity. Quite frankly, without this new Nimiq 5, you would have lost a fair number of channels quite likely much sooner than later, and Dish would be suffering a huge loss to their business as irate customers would have left in droves until some sort of temporary solution could be put into place. So, just a new satellite is EVERYTHING.
