He asked you a valid question (or answered you, depending on how you look at it).

yes, a white wall will work. But a screen will look better. That's why you got his post.

If you don't think there is a difference, then by all means, get the FP that is on Ebay, and project it against the "wall with white on it".

We are just saying that you will be disappointed. With the wall and the projector.

There are a lot of inexpensive screen alternatives. Yes a white wall is an option. Over at AVSforum they have a lot of discussions, including which paint works best. As a next step up some use a sheet of Formica or cloth. The lowest price screens run about the same as your proposed projector:
