THANKS for the info. I probably wasnt waiting long enough. I printed out your post and will try again

I'll go try it on a C-Band satellite and report back with the info :)

Well I tried the audio on G14

logged them in and had the maps within 3 minutes (did factory reset twice beforehand)

now I get a rolling picture :(

Moving dish to G17 91W for the unencrypted 19510 s/r mux

uh oh...to quote Charlie Brown I might have killed it

Did a couple master resets and tried G11 again. Entered info
no signal
slaved it so I KNEW I had the right polarity
no signal

redid master reset and re-entered
no signal

I had a +8.2 before and the dish didnt move. DVB comes in fine

I guess I'll try tomorrow

well its dead :(

did master reset and had "888" on screen for a good 30 seconds. Unplugged and replugged in and now it boots up but doesnt do much more. Went in and put in info and now it locks (yay!) but no channels log in. The mux I tried all the time on G17 would load within a minute. I waited 15 and nothing....just 100 which (when the VCT would load) was the 1st channel in the mux

I have a feeling (I dont know why) that instead of master reset I did another reset (the wrong one)

I'm thinking that I hit authorization reset once instead of master reset

lemme try W5 to see if I can get it to do ZK

Must have got it good :(. I don't know too much about the commercial boxes. I'm sure someone with on can tell you more than I. Lucky it wasn't a 4800 that you spent tall $$$ on. I would jump off a cliff. Look at the bright side it only did 19510 and the 905 can do that and then some.

Well that sucks! Set 'er aside and you'll have parts for the next one you get, or you can splay it out like a dead frog and take a scalpel to it.......

Forgot to mention yesterday me & 2 of my 3 nieces went back there. Only non Dish/Direct receiver I say was an OLD C-Band analog receiver. I want to say Chaparel but dont quote me on it

This thing was HUGE compared to my Toshiba 1420's....they had 29.99 price on it. No thankks

I ending up getting a 2.95 computer desk for my 2nd computer (the one with a RS232 port that I use to download software and use Channel master with)

If it was one of the Chaparral Monterey receivers, it could be worth the 29.99. The Monterey 90/95 is considered by most to be the best analog receiver out there. I've been using a Drake 1824 for the past 14 years or so, but a few years ago, I bought a used Monterey 50/55 (the 50/55 and 90/95 is because the 50 and 90 were software upgradable to the 55/95). Anyway, I've just been keeping the Monty 50/55 as a spare, but when my Drake went belly up this weekend, I decided to put the Monty into service, and so far, I'm pretty impressed with it. I wish I had switched long ago. Only strange thing about it is that the polarity skew adjustment doesn't seem to be the same for all sats, whereas on my Drake, all sats (except AMC1-Ku) had the same skew settings. Not sure why it would be different with this Monty, unless it has something to do with the Monty changing configuration for ODD-H vs ODD V sats or something.
But yes, the Monty 50/55 is a BIG receiver, but I think might be due to the heavy power supply.

From what I've read the authorization reset would kill the old Voom receivers that were still useful for OTA also.

I had one of those too and hosed that up by accidentally doing a master reset

oh well...no loss there as Voom had the issue with "the CBS glitch" since my local CBS is owned by them the Voom box would reboot

I bought a Monty 50 new in 1990. Payed almost $1500.00 for it without a VC2. That receiver was in service till 2006 when I got my 4DTV. It was a great receiver did everything. The only problem was the remote keypads kept wearing out. Finally the remote died completely. Thats when I bought my 4DTV 922.

I do miss my Monty it's collecting dust and I think the battery died in it now, It acts all goofy when plugged in. Oh well It had a hell of a run for 16 years.

It's amazing how expensive the old receivers were compared to these DVB receivers we use. My 3rd receiver was an Echostar 7000 (=HT8) that cost about $1300 back in 1990. Back in 1996, my 4th receiver was the Drake 1824 that I used until this week, and it cost around $800. Also in 1996 or 1997, I bought my DSR-4200 DCII receiver, and that cost $1100. I got my Monty 50/55 about 7 or 8 years ago used for about $250, which seems like a lot for a used receiver, but they threw in a 6' dish and feedhorn and everything. I thought it was a good deal at the time. Now, I don't think I could sell any of the above for more the $40.

Prices came down because of technology advances in manufacturing. They can put most things needed in a few VLSI chips now. This made a big difference. The problem is the old stuff was built like tanks the new stuff is a throw away plastic junk.
