I am going to be getting the service soon, especially after I heard about the 3 months free for HBO, Showtime, and Starz.

Do you still get the special deal as long as you subscribe before it runs out or does your installation have to be done before that date?

From what I have seen they pretty much give you some premium service free for 3 months. But, all you need to do is order it before it expires, install date can be beyond that. I would however verify with a D* CSR to confirm @ 1-800-531-5000 before making the order from the sales number your planning to use.

I just called in and ordered service yesterday and got those HBO and Starz free for 3 months but the CSR also gave me Showtime free for a year.

My install is scheduled for Friday afternoon. Any tip or things to think about before they come out to install?

-If its going to be hot outside having some cold unopened bottled water wouldn't hurt. He may decline it though but don't get upset about that.
-Move any entertainment centers or things that may be in the way of where he/she will be working.
-Put Animals in a Pen/Room that the tech won't be near or in. (even if you have the worlds friendliest dog, we're still strangers.
-Offer help running lines if you're able
-If you plan or need to have it on a pole, helping burring the line is always nice.
-If your TV HDMI input is going to be more than 4' away from where you want the receivers, you may want to pick up a longer HDMI cable to accommodate.
-Make sure he grounds your system.
-Make sure if he attaches the dish to the house that he uses 6 lag bolts on the footing and 2 monopoles w/ 2 lag bolts each with a black Mastic tape under it all (not silicone and unless its on brick/concrete).
-If you have any concerns/questions or are unhappy with the way something is done, bring it up.
-If you were happy with the job offering a tip is always nice, and get the techs number in case a problem arises you can 1st try to get him back out vs going through D*.

Hi Nuclear,

Im planning to call them too. I have a couple of questions. Did you get the online only: $23 off for 12 month deal through the phone order?

How do you get the 12 month Showtime free deal, what should I mention to them?

How could you make sure the deal is sure as what they told you on the phone? Confirmed by email?

Thanks in advance,
A~

I did get the $23 off deal through the phone call. I didn't even ask for the Showtime deal she just gave it to me, She first tried to get me the 2nd DVR for $100 off as well and when that didn't work she said that she would give me the Showtime free for 1 year. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask, maybe you will get the same or maybe even better get less of an upfront charge.

I did receive a confirmation email that listed all the equipment that I ordered and my chosen programming.

You can also use an existing customers account number as a referral, you just have to call the order in to set it up. That will save you an additional $10 per month for 5 months on your bill. PM me if you need a referral.

Thank you Nuclear!

Sorry that I already got a referral.

No problem, just making sure you knew about the referral program. Hopefully both of our installs will go smoothly.

Thank you Nuclear!

I tried to order the package, but they told me that I have to commit for 24 month at least, is that the case for you?

They seemed quite strick and tight now,:(.

Yeah, its on the website that its a minimum 24 month commitment for HD or DVR packages. I didn't have a problem with that so I didn't think to mention it to you.

The way that I look at it is I will be getting a larger selection of programming and hopefully better service (my Time Warner Cable that I have currently is beyond bad).

Thank you , N~!

Im waiting for answer on how to get 2nd HD DVR for half price from anther thread,:).

Wow, these people don't mess around. I just called and ordered the service today and they are going to come tomorrow to install. I'd like to see the cable company come out that fast.

I too got the free Showtime for a year deal. I was all set to ask about it because the CSR kept saying free for 3 months, but at the very end he pulled that whole acting like he was giving me something he shouldn't deal.

Anyway, here's to hoping for a trouble free install tomorrow.

Thats good to hear that you were able to get the Showtime deal and get an install set up quickly as well. Hopefully your installer gets everything up and running and you are happy with the service.

Please let us know how the install went good or bad.

small aside for anyone else looking for a deal.

they usually (maybe even right now) run a deal for FREE premier for 4 months if you buy the NFL package. I dont watch sports but this is how i got hooked on the premier package years ago. Good starting deal

NFL package is $300 extra ($74.99x4 months). So if you are not into sports that much, and want the premier, it is cheaper to get it separtely..

Huh, no.

Last year you paid 4 installments of $70 for the NFLST and got the Premier package and DVR service for $0 for 4 months. I don't know what the offer will be this year.

So even if the offer is for $75 for the NFLST this year, and you don't care a lick about football, you would still save $30/month off the Premier and $6/month for DVR service. Altogether saving yourself $36/month.:)

On the special where you get Premier free for 4 months, are you allowed to drop down to a cheaper plan after the 4 months is over? Or are you required to stay at the Premier level and pay for it?

The install went very well. Took roughly 3 hours total and it probably would have been a little quicker if he knew beforehand that he needed to run a new wire for my internet. I assumed he didn't based off another thread that implied that it only needed to be done if a TV was in the same room as the cable modem, so I didn't tell him right away. Either way, he went into the attic and had that fixed fairly easily.

Only glitch was Showtime didn't show up initially, but that was quickly remedied with a call to customer service.

Now, I'm just going to cross my fingers for the first time it rains and hope I'm one of those that doesn't experience outages because of it. Really don't feel like hearing the wife complain if it does. ;)

Overall, I am thrilled with the service. It sure is nice being able to finally tune into HD channels that I have wanted for a long time, but Cablevision was either too lazy or stubborn to get.

Congratulations.

Soon, you will also notice that most of the HD Channels have less than 50% of HD programming!
