getting a receiver on a phone line

I am still new to satellite TV. I'd like to hook up my receiver to a phone line or internet but I don't have a phone jack near my receiver. What do people in that situation usually do? I think running an extra long phone cord is not an option. I have a wireless network in my home.

Hook to the network. You get full Remote Access that way, pending you have a VIP series or 625 receiver.

You can use a wireless game adapter plugged into the ethernet port of your receiver. Since ViP receivers have built-in Homeplug, buy a Homeplug kit and connect your router to your home electrical and use its wiring to connect your ViP receiver to the internet. The Homeplug adapter plugs into an electrical socket and has an ethernet patch cord that goes to one of the router ports. The ViP receiver doesn't need a separate adapter as it already has one from the factory and transmits and receives via simply being plugged into an outlet.

Is there a way to speed up your receiver hooked up to the Internet. I have the plug in to bring the Internet to the living room. Which the box says top speed is 88 Mbps but movies down load around 1.8 Mbps. Is there a setting I'm missing?

A word of caution. If your router and/or your receiver are on a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) the Homeplug may not work.

I have had it for over a month now and it seems to work great.

You can use a sling link adapter for VIP reciever to hook it up to the Internet as it uses home wiring to distribute the signal.

You can use a Phonex Easyjack 2 to transmit your phone line through the electrical wiring.

You can also use dishcom modem to transmit phone line through electrical wiring and is you have more than one VIP reciever you can use the recievers internal dishcom to connect the other recievers.

Dishcom and Phonex DO NOT work together so use one or the other.

DO NOT plug any of these into a power strip or surge protector as it filters the signal and will not work.

If your home wiring is older or bad it may not work.

Dish Network is currently doing testing with phonex as there are lots of cases where they are not working

I have wireless network as well too. I was like you..I had a phone jack that was in the next room and it just wasnt easy on the eyes to run a phone line a mile long, but my wireless modem was a LONG ways away. I came on here and inquired for help and received it. I used the Netgear 104 and it works like a champ! One step installation. Plug and plug and you're done. See link for what I bought:
