I was having trouble at first with video locking up while watching from external drive, then realized it was the cheap cell phone power adapter I was using. Replaced it and works fine now. The power supply I'm using is a LG Travel Adapter model STA-U17WD (5.1V 0.7A). Not all 5V power supplies are created equal, even though they may show the same specs. I tried 5 different ones before I discovered the LG. Not sure if this could be your problem, but worth a try. May be others that work better too, but the LG is what worked for me. Hope this helps...I found on the PI that the openelec image was not reliable enough to perform ongoing recording schedules.
It would act up and require a reboot every few days. You'd go to check if it recorded properly and it would be locked up.
Ok I suppose if you do not record.
I was excited about being able to directly record to a network share on a separate media server, oh well.

I'm curious which USB tuners you two (fred and dsmith) are using in the Pi 2's ?
I'm not using a tuner at the moment, I just use it as a media player. I take my external hard drive and attach it so I can take it with me and watch my recorded shows away from home. Adding a tuner is something I want to do in the future.TBS-5980 mostly, Updatelee recommended it for use with his software (UpdateDVB), demod and tuner better than most.
Not currently, it will probably be available in near future.Does the HDVR-3500 have any sort of commercial skip or advance on the remote control while time shifting or watching a recording?
We are working on advanced playback features, hopefully we will be able to make it more user friendly. Thanks for the reply. This would be very useful since this receiver was designed for recording and playback. Thanks.

Nope. Didn't work, the motor is dead. The LEDS on the board will light up, but appear dim, guessing it's something blown/burned out on the circuit board, becase the power is weak going to the LNB as well. We did have a sudden power outage the day before it quit. I don't have the expertise to try and diagnose the circuit board, so I guess it's time to start looking for a new one.I think I may have found the problem with my motor. I noticed a hairline crack in the solder on the jack coming from the LNB, so I'm going to try and re-solder both jacks, and see what happens... Looks like it's a 2004 model, so it's lived a long life...
If you disconnect the cable going to the motor, a good test would be to measure the voltage across the cable center and shield (ground). Could be a bad connection, dirt, etc. in the cabling causing low voltage.Nope. Didn't work, the motor is dead. Tried new cables, didn't work, and the voltage was there going in, but going out to the LNB from the motor, it wasn't there...If you disconnect the cable going to the motor, a good test would be to measure the voltage across the cable center and shield (ground). Just remove it. It is recommended not to remove if the file is playing or if the recording is on. The file played or recorded may get corrupted.Do you just remove USB sticks and external hard drivers USB's? Or is there a way to safety remove these in the menu somewhere? Thanks.
Please use external drive. Export from channel manager to the external drive and use Menu > Manager > Data Download from USB storage - and select the external drive.View attachment 111324
This is what is on my USB Key after editing from the computer editor and I can't get anything loaded into the 3500 using USB data transfer Manager in the Menu. Please help. Thanks.
This is hardware LED that reports power to the board. To turn it off would require cutting LED off. This would void the warranty.Anyway to turn off or dim down that bright red light on the front panel? Where my receiver is it shines directly at you when you walk in the room.
